is the jumbotron section necessary?

I'd say it's necessary. It was a fairly famous incident at the time. Footix 01:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps, but the other details regarding injuries (or lack thereof) and the fact an event was postponed needs to given a citation.

Under other names the arena was originally supposed to be called Crossroads Arena. It should be listed? Typhoon87 6:03, September 23 2007 (EST)

Anyone know the dimensions of the new HD jumbotron screens? They're awesome BTW. eLeigh33 23:32, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it had been established that the "Hot Sauce Blue Cheese Arena" thing had no basis in fact? Footix (talk) 03:48, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Hockeyrink.jpg[edit]

Image:Hockeyrink.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was MOOT. Powers T 23:35, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HSBC Arena (Buffalo)HSBC Arena – The Buffalo arena is likely the primary topic for the term "HSBC Arena". It receives about twice as many pageviews as the Brazilian arena, even in the summer months (in the winter, it's closer to four times). It is far more likely to be the arena for which readers are searching. Powers T 17:20, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note also that since there are only two options, the other arena can be linked directly in a hatnote, which would make the disambiguation page superfluous. We could delete the disambiguation page and make it so everyone was only zero or one click away from the article they want to read. Powers T 02:16, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Its sounds like this is going to be renamed in a 2pm press conference today. I would assume it will be something along the lines of "First Niagara Arena" after the bank that is buying all of HSBC's upstate new york branches. Hold off on any HSBC related disambig discussions. Huh, go figure. Ted Black just said a few days ago that since First Niagara wasn't acquiring HSBC but merely HSBC's upstate branches, that talk of an arena name change was premature. (It's especially surprising since the purchase deal doesn't close until January.) Nonetheless, I believe this arena will continue to be the primary topic for the term "HSBC Arena" even after the name changes (which probably won't be today). Powers T 17:19, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it could be a while before it actually happens (as I noted in the comments of the move revert I just did): its was months before they officially changed the name down here with the Wells Fargo Center. Either way, I would give the main article to the Brazilian arena (its going to be an Olympic venue BTW) with a simple disambig note in its header pointing to New Buffalo Arena name. TerminalPreppie (talk) 17:39, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By 2016, I'm sure the arena in Brazil will be the primary topic, but there's no way that will happen immediately. Powers T 18:57, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First Niagara Center[edit]

I realize it's fun to be the "first" to get to change the name of a place and all, but please do wait until the name change actually occurs. The change won't be fully in place until shortly before the season starts. Powers T 21:06, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Even if it's announced? I did it because it's official, not sure what we're waiting for.--Giants27(T|C) 21:10, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Did they actually say "from this point forward"? The last I heard is that the signage would be changing over over the next six weeks or so. Powers T 21:23, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By all accounts, it sounds like the name is official. [1][2][3] I'm not seeing anything that says it will be finalized in a few weeks, based on those, it sounds like it's done.--Giants27(T|C) 21:45, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The name change has been made official. All HSBC Arena websites have been renamed as the First Niagara Center. [4] I think the title of the article should then be renamed as the change is official as of August 25, 2011. Babyox4420 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:56, 25 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

I could have sworn the web site still said HSBC Arena a couple of hours ago. Powers T 22:41, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The arena website was changed before 5pm EST. If you go to www.hsbcarena.com, it redirects to www.firstniagaracenter.com Babyox4420 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:44, 25 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

"The" FNC?[edit]

Can we stop the back-and-forth on using the definite article in the lead? Popular usage is not yet established one way or another, and neither is clearly incorrect grammatically. Powers T 12:56, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
