Setting?[edit]

I'm confused about whether the film's airstrike is depicted as a continuation of the war in Europe or imagined as the still-to-come Dutch East Indies campaign. From List of films of the Dutch East Indies it's not obvious that the Dutch government in exile was exercising much influence on propaganda films for mobilization. Can this context be expanded? When Kartinah came out the colonial government had already begun preparing for a Japanese invasion, which they correctly expected. This film was meant to promote the air raid preparation teams they had established, for what good it eventually did them. That much is not in the sources. As noted at List of films of the Dutch East Indies, Karl G. Heider has written that all of these pre-1950 films are lost; the sources used in the article are based on promotional material and reviews kept at Sinematek Indonesia. Biran, for example, cites Armijn Pane in a 1950 issue of Indonesia, an interview with The Teng Chun, and material from the studio's internal journal. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:43, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
