merge[edit]

Can you merge with BackTrack and rename to Kali Linux. — Neustradamus (✉) 22:21, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to their blog, Kali Linux is a complete re-write of BackTrack, which appears to be why they called the current release of Kali version 1.0. Someone may even decide to pick up the existing BackTrack code and continue developing it. For both reasons, I think the two articles are best kept separate. clean up[edit]

re-organized sections to match the other operating system articles (more unifying of these articles is needed - TBD)
removed a book in Portuguese: unless a book in Portuguese is actually used for a reference, listing it here is just an advertisement. There are many English books to reference in this English article (see Amazon). Actually, there are too many so I didn't add any here.
added a reference to an interview with one of Kali Linux creators (Mati Aharoni)
removed {{WikiProject Computing |network=yes |hardware=yes |class=Stub|free-software=yes|free-software-importance=High |software=yes}} from this talk page as this has nothing to do with the physical devices (hardware) but with the software security of the network

Patched for Injection[edit]

Logo is obsolete[edit]

What it says above. New logo is https://www.kali.org//images/kali-logo.svg , and it could be argued that the dragon mascot https://www.kali.org/images/kali-dragon-icon.svg is also a logo. The logo in the article matches neither. --MCBastos (talk) 21:11, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: The "dragon mascot" also resembles a modified depiction of Kalki's winged white horse, named Devadatta, from the Kali Yuga. See various depictions. Sometimes in Kali Linux images, such as on desktops, it also appears as a darker colored horse. Logos and mascot images change often enough it is hard to keep up with the latest. Kali name origin?[edit]

The Kernel Auditing Linux statement was added by an IP editor, without any citation Special:Diff/948238360 shortly before before April Fools' Day 2020, and persisted. I agree it seems bogus and should have been deleted. However, the current brief statement, "The name was inspired by the Hindu goddess Kali" is not fully supported, even by the current citation video - i.e. Verification Fail. Gorman says one thing about Kali deity first, but Wilson does not agree, saying "I've heard various different stories... It's just Kali" Then they list various different meanings of Kali, which they think fit well. Another primary source also lists several possibilities, but concludes "None of the above." [1] Secondary sources, such as a couple previously added by me here Special:Diff/951186819 supported the Hindu goddess or demon. So, I am deleting the overly simple statement. Something with more detail seems appropriate. Also, citations have been mangled and are not used for some statements. -- Yae4 (talk) 21:47, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
