Article needs different title[edit]

"Enbridge oil spill" is far too general a title, as Enbridge is a multinational company with many pipelines. "Talmadge Creek Oil Spill (2010)" is probably a better title. Yes, I agree that "Enbridge oil spill" is not the best title. Enbridge has had many spills. Also, calling it an "oil spill" misses the essential feature of this spill. This is the largest tar sands spill on record. What makes it different is that diluted bitumen has properties that make it far harder to deal with than conventional crude oil. I don't think that "Talmudge Creek oil spill (2010)" is the best title either. The name "Talmudge Creek" is not generally known outside of the local area. When you google this spill, the search "Enbridge Oil Spill" gets by far the most hits. That is, no doubt, related to the current opposition to Enbridge's Northern Gateway Pipeline in Canada. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board's report in early July, 2012 named fined Enbridge for their negligence related to the spill. This was a big story in the international media. But it is time-sensitive. "Kalamazoo River Oil Spill" is next in number of hits—including many from Michigan. I propose that we rename this "Kalamazoo River Oil Spill," and note in the lead sentence that it is also called the "Enbridge Oil Spill" and the "Kalamazoo Tar Sands Spill." Since my last comment, someone has changed the name back to "Enbridge oil spill." This doesn't seem appropriate. Enbridge is a big company with many pipelines. There have been recent spills on Enbridge pipelines in Wisconsin (July, 2012) and Alberta (June 2013), both of which are included in the search results when one does a Google searche for "Enbridge oil spill." In keeping with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (events), I will rename this article "Kalamazoo River oil spill." I will add redirects for "Talmudge Creek oil spill" and "Kalamazoo oil spill." We should probably include a disambiguation page for "Enbridge oil spill," listing some of the major spills of that company. Sunray (talk) 02:34, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Being from Battle Creek and actually right next to the spill site, I have to dispute the neutrality of the comment saying the protest highlights the lack of security. The site has as much security as most construction sites around here, or more, and the pipeline is buried for the most part.
