Fair use rationale for Image:KWSS-LP.jpg[edit]

Image:KWSS-LP.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Program listings[edit]

Besides being unsourced, the program entries are inappropriate (see WP:LIST) and possibly in violation of WP:CP if taken from station publications. Accordingly, I'm removing them. My suggestion for reinstatement is to find a published source independent of the station and write narrative material accordingly. Allreet (talk) 22:45, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To reiterate my above comment, the information entered for KWSS appears to be taken in its entirety from the station's website, which could be a violation of WP:CP copyright guidelines and certainly of WP:LIST. More serious, however, is the insistence of changing the Owner category in the station infobox. To my knowledge, the FCC does not allow private ownership of a non-commercial educational FM station, and accordingly, I have relied on FCC query information as the source in citing the Scottsdale Italian Social Club as owner.

At first, anonymous editors replaced this with the unsourced name of a private individual and now with the term "Private Ownership", using a corporate service as the source. The issue here is asserting private ownership of a public broadcast license, a concern that is probably not Wikipedia's but could pose a problem for whoever is the actual owner. For now, I will remove the Owner category to avoid this dispute and related implications. However, I also believe that the list of programming information is not acceptable under the previously stated guidelines, so I am reverting it at the risk of WP:EDITWAR. Should the back-and-forth continue, I plan to seek administrator assistance.

To assist those who would like to see more details included for KWSS, I suggest generalizing and condensing the website-sourced information, as well as incorporating material from reliable external sources. Having searched this myself, I realize that there is a scarcity of information on the Internet. In lieu of that, legitimate (notable/authoritative) published sources that aren't available on the web would be perfectly acceptable. For additional direction on this, see WP:CP, WP:VER, WP:SPAM and among other guidelines, WP:CITE. Thanks. Allreet (talk) 13:13, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of "notable" programs[edit]

On numerous grounds, dropping in short descriptions of programs randomly does not seem like an appropriate approach. For details, see Wikipedia:Notability, Wikipedia:Writing better articles, Wikipedia:Spam, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Point of view, among other guidelines. I understand the good intentions in wanting to add information on KWSS, but suggest researching and writing a balanced profile instead, one that tells the station's story and gives readers things they may want and need to know, like what is the range of music on KWSS, who are the people who do the programming (not their names, but the fact that they're volunteers), how did the station develop, etc. For some examples, see the articles on KBOO, WFHB, KGNU and other stations on the community radio list.
