For being Smith's breakout role, little is said about his time on "The Get Down". This was the project that really seemed to launch his career, which showed the versatility and reach of Smith's acting abilities. The edit I'd like to contribute is Smith's commitment to method acting during this time. It is well documented and confessed to by him that he lived in a somewhat dilapidated apartment in Brooklyn to get in into character to play Zeke. See link for example.
