Date confusion[edit]

The New York Times obituary cited gives his birth date as January 18, 1830. Rather than change it I flagged it. Peter Flass (talk) 23:39, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A newspaper is generally not a reliable source when it comes to details such as dates. I'm not at home but when I have more time I'll provide a better citation (Library of Congress says 1833). -- 12:51, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
