Untitled[edit]

The article states: "It has been said that the original inspiration for "Jolene" was a red-headed bank teller whom Parton suspected her husband at the time was fantasizing about, due to his suddenly frequent trips to the bank, though Parton herself has stated on many occasions that her inspiration came from a little red-headed girl seeking an autograph after a concert who told the singer her name was "Jolene"."

A very fast search for this song in Youtube will reveal Dolly stating the back teller story.

Someone recently added the info that Cake_(band) also performed the song, however a quick google search appears to show that while that band does indeed have a song called Jolene, the lyrics appear to be very different from the song this page is about. Unless anyone knows better, I'll revert it in a few days Rpvdk 00:11, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Track Listing[edit]

Is it documented other than on amzon.co.uk that on the Jolene Single Release of the White Stripes the song "Black Math" is included? The xlrecording shop only offers the single with "Jolene" on side 1 and "Do" on side 2. Are there different pressings of this single? [1] --145.254.51.76 16:25, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Straight No Chaser cover[edit]

I just added Straight No Chaser's cover that features Dolly herself. I also used SNC's website (www.sncmusic.com) for the reference. I hope it turned out alright. If needed, could somebody clean it up a bit to make it more presentable.

As for the song itself, it's on track 10 of the album I sourced.

Is mention of every single cover version really necessary?[edit]

Can we please pare down the list to a few "notable" cover versions, like only those that were released as singles or on studio albums? Or maybe just list the artists without giving each version so much prominence? Let the cover section be, you notability nazi. It was useful to me and it may be useful to other people as well.

It only needs a bit of sorting. And could be more complete (there's a version from the '80s that I couldn't identify so far).

I agree iwith the original poster. As per Wikipedia song project, "Only cover versions/renditions important enough to have gained attention in their own right should be added to song articles." Background[edit]

According to Parton, the song was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband Carl Dean at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married. In an interview, she also revealed that Jolene's name and appearance are based on that of a young fan who came on stage for her autograph.

Dolly herself explains the background of this encounter on stage in 1988 including a violent altercation not even hinted at by the docile supplications of the lyrics. Leo Moracchioli Cover[edit]

I'd like to advocate for inclusion of the Leo Moracchioli cover. It is the top result for covers in the metal style for this song, with 2M views on YouTube. Leo is not as notable as, say, Jack White, but he did extend the song to a distinct style.TAPwiki (talk) 18:51, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
