Children of Paul's between the years 1584 and 1591[edit]

At this time the passage reads: "Eight plays by him were probably acted before the queen by the Children of the Chapel and especially by the Children of Paul's between the years 1584 and 1591, one or two of them being repeated before a popular audience at the Blackfriars Theatre." Those seem to be pretty much the dates where there was no Blackfriars Theatre. If there is evidence that the Children played at the first theatre (perhaps in 1584?) could that date be added to the sentence or perhaps the term "first Blackfriars Theatre" be added to the sentence? If the history of BfT1 is more complex than that it closed for good in 1584, could that fact be added to the Blackfriars Theatre article. Fotoguzzi (talk) 03:51, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This article is largely ubsubstantiated original research.[edit]

Especially in the "Comedies" section. Wikipedia is about citing what's already published, not simply writing down what's true. There are basically no sources anywhere in here for claims like:

  • though printed in 1601, possibly Lyly's earliest play — the surviving version is likely a revision of the original
  • have been attributed to Lyly, but on altogether insufficient grounds
  • His importance as a dramatist has been very differently estimated
  • it represents an important step in English dramatic art
  • One or two of the songs introduced into his plays are justly famous and show a real lyrical gift
  • Nor ... must it be forgotten that his ... plots ... were charged with interest to those courtly hearers
  • As a matter of fact his reputation and popularity as a playwright were considerable
  • Harvey dreaded lest Lyly should make a play upon their quarrel

All of these statements, and many others in this article, lack citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.239.65.11 (talk) 19:18, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
