Hi everybody. John Leav(e)y and Herbert Leavey are exact the same person called Herbert James "John" Leavey. After his football carreer, he went to the Netherlands as a footballcoach of PSV Eindhoven and HRC. For that reason, I suggest to merge both articles into one. I hope that my dutch article about him (here: John Leavey) can inspire you on the english Wikipedia. Thank you. FabioDekker (talk) 19:53, 3 August 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Where's the evidence that they are the same person / what is the correct spelling of the surname? GiantSnowman 20:54, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an article in english, but I've got a better article in dutch right here. In the Netherlands he became more famous as John Leavey. Best regards, FabioDekker (talk) 10:39, 4 August 2017 (UTC).[reply]
In that case merge at John Leavey if they are the same person and that is the correct spelling of his name. GiantSnowman 17:04, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't recall the specifics, but this is not the first case I can remember of it being discovered that a British player went on to become a manager on the continent under a different forename. Was that a common thing.....? -- 15:59, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman and FabioDekker: I was going to close this as merge, but the articles are contradictory. The Herbert Leavey one says he was playing for Boscombe from 1921 until 1924, whilst the John Leavy one says he was managing PSV from 1922 to 1926. Also pinging Naphit as he created the Herbert article (although the info about him playing for Boscombe was added by Walls of Jericho who hasn't edited since 2014). • Against any merge, I don't see enough evidence to indicate they are the same person. Govvy (talk) 15:07, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge and redirect to the Herbert Leavey article as that is what he was most noted for as in the English world. Between this book which confirms he coached in Holland after the war, the article in Dutch from FabioDekker, which shows the same guy that played for Plymouth Argyle, Liverpool, Barnsley etc. also coached at PSV, S V Gouda and Helder RC those years, This article which says in April 1922 he left player manager role at Boscombe "last season" to go Scounting (sic) for Portsmouth, which counters @Number 57:'s concern, This article which also shows he left Boscombe to rejoin Portsmouth as a scout until 1922 and has an unexplained gap from then until he joined Gouda in 1927 and later Helder, PSVs manager list which list John Leavy (sic), and SV Gouda history page which shows H.J.K. Leavey took charge in 1926, I think there is enough to show them as the same person and expand the article a bit. There is a Match day program article on him here that predates his Holland days and some mentions in this book If someone wants to improve the article after merge. @Number 57: Correct Boscombe dates are 1920-21 Southern League 17 games 5 goals, he played for Portsmouth for 2 months (March-May 1921) and returned to Boscombe: 1921-22 Southern League 13 games 1 goal. He is no longer there in 1922-23. Source is the definitive AFC Bournemouth (Leigh Edwards/ John Treleven) pages 95 and 96. Cattivi (talk) 09:57, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
