Controversies[edit]

While at playing for the All Blacks in 1978 against Bridgend, Ashworth stamped on the face of Bridgend and Wales legend J.P.R. Williams.

Williams left the field and is reported to have lost two pints of blood from his injuries, which were stitched by his father off the field.

Williams returned to the field and completed the match but later stated he had no wish to ever play against the All Blacks again.

Ashworth sent Williams a bottle of white wine many years later, apparently as an olive branch, but is still yet to apologise for the incident either privately or publicly. 90.248.87.122 (talk) 16:26, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
