The shiva protect sentence[edit]

I think its fine. As I remember Shankar Bhagwan granted all boons otherwise.

DJagadev 03:33, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the problem: Gods can only grant boons of abilities that they themselves possess. Even Lord Shiva is not able to stop the Pandavas (because they're under the protection of Krishna). Thus, he is not able to give Jayadratha an ability he himself does not possess. It is also for this reason that Brahma was not able to give Ravana immortality as a boon because immortality is not something that even the gods (or Brahma himself for that matter) possess. That is why Ravana ended up settling for the boon that death would not come to him at the hands of Devas, Asuras, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, etc...(humans and vanaras were left out of that list).

If i remember correctly, it was Dronacharya who granted him his life and not Yudhishtara. I am changing this now, but correct me if i am wrong.nids(♂) 01:12, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is Yudhisthira who spared his life but he asked Draupadi on what to do with him. Draudpadi told Bhima not to kill him as that would make their cousin Dushalla a widow. Bhima then asked Yudhisthira how he can renege on his vow to kill him. Shri Krishna comes in and intervenes and tells Bhima and Arjuna to shave Jayadratha's head as humiliation in face of one's enemies is even worse than death. Thus, his life was spared because of three, Yudhisthira, Draupadi and Krishna.

Brief story[edit]

I am giving a brief story about him as i remember. If somebody can provide further references, i request him to enter this on the main page.

Drona and Jayadratha were students at the same gurukul and were best of friends. After their education, they parted ways. One day, drona went to see his old friend but was humiliated by him for his poverty. Then drona decided to take avenge. When he taught pandavas, he asked them to defeat Jayadratha as a token for his Gurudakshina.nids(♂) 01:18, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jayadratha insulted Drona by saying that only equals can be friends. Drona returned half his kingdom back to him, and further humiliated him by saying that now they can be friends, since they have equal kingdoms.nids(♂) 01:22, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nids, this is incorrect. You may have mistaken Jayadratha for Draupada.

Raj2004 01:29, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thanks for the clarification.nids(♂) 01:33, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking that as well. I remember Jaya and the chakra and Abhimanyu.04:47, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome.

refining[edit]

Although Lord Shiva loves his devotees equally as he does not ignore the tapasya of rakshasas, asuras or anybody, even those with bad intentions such as Jayadratha, He always finds ways to protect dharma and not allow any evil to triumph over good. Thus, Arjuna ultimately defeated Jayadratha. This episode indicates that God protects His true devotees. this sentence doesnt sound right it is like a opinion, it needs refining —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matalababu (talkcontribs) 10:46, August 28, 2007 (UTC)
