Third all time in receptions by tight end[edit]

I assume this means (and should be changed to) "Third all time in career receptions by a tight end" ("career" being the important clarification). But I don't know if it's up to date, and can't find a source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gmporr (talkcontribs) 05:48, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would also be interested to know who currently holds the single season record for receptions by a tight end. Fox announced during the 11/22/2012 game that Witten was very close to breaking it. Gmporr (talk) 05:52, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, he holds the single season record now :) Gmporr (talk) 05:07, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Finally verified that yes, this stat is career receptions. Looks like he should pass Shannon Sharpe (815) for 2nd in the 2013 season, but still significantly behind Tony Gonzalez. Gmporr (talk) 05:47, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt he'll catch Tony Gonzalez in yardage, but may do so for the all-time TE leader in receptions. He needs about 3 average (70 catches) seasons to do so. If he is close after 3 seasons (within 20-30 catches), I can't see him retiring without sticking around to break the record. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.103.81.34 (talk) 09:02, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
