1659 – The fort at Allahabad was surrendered to the forces of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
1879 – Anglo-Zulu War: Natal Native Contingent and British troops defeated Zulu forces in the Action at Sihayo's Kraal.
1899 – During a storm, the crew of Lynmouth Lifeboat Station transported their 10-ton lifeboat 15 mi (24 km) overland in order to rescue a damaged schooner.
1969 – British rock band Led Zeppelin released their first album, Led Zeppelin, in the United States.
2007 – Comet McNaught (pictured) reached perihelion, becoming the brightest comet in over 40 years, with an apparent magnitude of −5.5.

I cut from the reference to Sam & Henry in 1926 "from Harlem looking for extra money during the Depression " which seems unlikely since the depression was over 3 years in the future then. -- Infrogmation

Notability of Bobby Crosby, Dontrelle Willis and the other recently born sports person? Does simply signing a major league contract make one notable?

Harrisburg[edit]

1971 - Harrisburg Six: The Reverend Philip Berrigan and five others are indicted on charges of conspiring to kidnap Henry Kissinger and of plotting to blow up the heating tunnels of federal buildings in Washington, DC.

Is this really true? There is no entry for Harrisburg Six, and Phillip Berrigan doesn't mention this plan. Too controverial? Or just plain false? 69.37.9.101 01:35, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

HAL 9000[edit]

Can we add HAL 9000 to the births section? I think that it is quite a cool date and there was a huge birthday party for him at the U of I in 1997. Georgipetrov 17:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Led Zeppelin[edit]

Led Zeppelin's wiki says their first album was released January 13, not 12.

First Hispanic-American in space[edit]

I noticed that you have deleted my entry for January 12, in which I said that "Space shuttle Columbia blasted off with a crew that included the first Hispanic-American in space, Dr. Franklin R. Chang-Diaz." Not such a specialist in Space issues, just copied this from NYT On This Day page. If Chang-Diaz is not the first Hispanic-American, it seems that NYT also is wrong. The first Hispanic was Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez and Hispanic-American is not enough of a distinction (Hispanic vs. Hispanic-American) to warrant mention[4]. Being of a certain ethnic background doesn't make for global notability in and of itself. Removal of Titus Andronicus[edit]

I removed the entry *1592 - Titus Andronicus is first staged at the Rose Theatre. - I couldn't see a reference to this at either Titus Andronicus or Rose Theatre. If anyone can find a ref, then please add it back into the article. - NJJ.Rocher (talk) 14:42, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of link[edit]

In the existing version of this page is a reference to Super Bowl III. Since this event has its own page, I edited the Jan 12 page to link to it. Someone reverted that edit. Superbowls are not notable events. They happen every year. There is no evidence that this particular Superbowl is any different than any other. The claim that it was responsible for "catapulting professional football into a new era" is not supported in the Superbowl III article. The event should be removed as non-notable. I understand that point of view...I might even agree with you - but my point above was not that the event was notable - somebody else had previously put the event itself in there. All I did was edit the existing line to add the link. So my entire edit was from Super Bowl III to Super Bowl III. That was the edit that you reverted and I still don't see why. I could have understood if you took out the whole line to delete the event entirely, if you thought it to be non-notable. Can you explain further?
