How can this seventeenth-century painter be referred to as "Northern Renaissance"? This article probably needs to be expanded/clarified to explain how this third-generation Brueghel fits into the greater story of seventeenth-century Flemish and European art while continuing the traditions for which his family for which his family is known. --Stomme 20:45, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the term "fijnschilders" has come to be generally associated specifically with a group of artists in Leiden, in the Dutch Republic--Gerard Dou who are approximate contemporaries with Jan II Brueghel (or a bit later). The use of this term in, at least in English, seems rather specific to me and incorrectly applied here.
