Neutrality/Citation needed[edit]

The article reads, "Lord Derby was a man of deep religious feeling and of great nobility of character". Says who? This either needs to be backed up by a relevant citation, or removed. Whether someone is noble or not is a matter of opinion, so it should either be changed to read along the lines of "(relevant source) describes him as having great nobility of character" or removed. Hart Common (1642)?[edit]

"He was unable to get possession of Manchester, was defeated at Chowbent and Lowton Moor.." but "In 1642, during the English Civil War, a battle was fought at Hart Common between Lord Derby's forces and Parliamentarians..." Martinevans123 (talk) 23:58, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Court martial?[edit]

Was he really tried by court martial? If so, why? Biographies of Humphrey Mackworth (Parliamentarian), then deputy chief justice of the Chester circuit, make him the presiding judge, which suggests a normal judicial process. Sjwells53 (talk) 16:39, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've found out. He was, according to House of Commons Journal, so I obviously don't understand how 17th century courts martial worked. Anyway, the reference may be useful. Sjwells53 (talk) 21:22, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
