Untitled[edit]

This page should be shown as I have written and published it about my own father: James Douglas. The information contained here is all in the public domain and has been made available to numerous media sources as a means of publicity for this Composer. 14:19, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

James Douglas is currently a Professional Member of The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters and his music is currently published by Eschenbach Editions (of which I am Publishing Manager) and by Caritas Music Publishing (I am the Owner and Proprietor). Full details can be found on www.caritas-music.co.uk Caritasmus 14:23, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hereby give permission for this article to be reproduced (Katharine Douglas) and have emailed Wikipedia to confirm this. Caritasmus 14:26, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can find no email received which mentions "caritas music" or "james douglas composer". Do you have a ticket number? It would be in the subject line of the automated response when you first sent the message. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:31, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with the article[edit]

This article is written like an advertisement, which is no wonder since the majority of information was added by Caritasmus, who has an obvious conflict of interest. There are no claims of notability made in the article, and there are no reliable sources with which to verify any claims of notability. In fact, there are no references in the article at all.

Related to the above, the tone of the article is not acceptable for an encyclopedia. Sentences such as "He is especially grateful for the teaching of Professor Hermann Reutter (Munich / Salzburg) and Professor Henri Lauth (Paris)." just don't belong in an encyclopedia. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 16:23, 25 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

I came to this article from suggested edits. This article has been noted for multiple issue for multiple years and even though it was created by a family member of the subject, it doesn't seem to have advanced. In my attempt to help improve this article I found the subject's obituary and updated the article accordingly, citing the obituary as a source. I went to Cataris Publishing's website to see what was there about him and his work and I made some citations based on that information as well (I've since removed some). Finally, I put a list of his works I found on Cataris' website as an invisible note under a new heading "Works" until I could find some independent information to support continuing work on this article. It appears to me that all of his work is self-published (Cataris is his company with only three composers all employees of the company) which is fine, but, I don't feel that is doing much to establish notability nor do I believe most information there can used under Wikipedia's guidelines as a source for citation or to establish notablity. I did find where he published nine of his own works to YouTube from 1 to 5 years ago which all together have had considerably less than 1k views total to date. Someone has been uploading additional works to his YT profile over the past few days (obviously posthumously) so who knows where that will lead but, as it stands currently, his YT presence isn't helping establish notability in my mind. While I don't doubt the veracity of the statements made in this article or in the subject's obituary, I do feel that all that information needs to have some independent reliable citation. I've tried to find citations to support the claims made in this article, his website, Cataris' website, his obituary, etc. From what I've found (or haven't found), I don't believe that is going to be possible at this time. The obituary is certainly a sufficient citation for the statistical information (date of death etc.) but, I don't believe it can be used to support the biographical information on it's own, any more than the subject's own web page can. This man seems to have enjoyed a wonderful, interesting, and productive life however, I have failed to find any information that can be independently substantiated to support the criteria for notability. Perhaps with so much more of his work becoming available on YT that will change in time but, until then, I don't feel this article is ready for Wikipedia so, I'm going to stop working on it. I would recommend this article for deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Delta30061972 (talkcontribs) 04:26, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
