Red links[edit]

Just a note that I have removed four red links in the disambiguation page James Carter. Please contact me for more information. NHRHS2010NHRHS2010 19:04, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It would waste 2 people's effort to contact the above colleague, since the diffs are deletions clearly needed to conform to WP:DabRL.

Removals & top-level reorg[edit]

Within the same edit, generally on a basis easily found at WP:MoSDab or WP:Dab:

  1. I removed 7 bios from See also, bcz none of them would be called J Carter, properly or by any edited work -- this is not a page of titles that begin w/ Jimmy-Carter- ....
  2. I removed Carter (name) from Sa, bcz any fool knows to look at "Carter" if you've failed to find your Jimmy Carter, and they will do so if they don't want to take No for answer, without our implying "of course we could have missed one". In contrast, such an entry will encourage that those looking for a non-notable JC probably (who probably should give up or go outside WP at the end of that page) potentially leading them on by our seeming endorsement of the search being likely to pay off w/in WP.
  3. I collected the sub and the fict-char from beyond the Other real people section (misnamed Others), to appear before the headinged sections, especially since they are easy to rule out at the start if you're looking for a real person (and they are each probably more often sought than average non-Prexy JC, and each quite possibly more often sought than nearly any other JC). The situation suggests the utility to users of a structure of hardly-ever-used primary-topic-entry/ (sparse) non-people-entries/ non-primary-topic-real-people-sub-sections. We don't *have* to make the users work hard!
  4. Least important, a logical and more specific arrangement of the 6 most unique real-person entries in a single section emerged.

My intent should be clear re a few other lines. --Jerzyt 05:08, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmies only![edit]

I think that the James Carters should be removed to their own page, and this page should be reserved for true Jimmy Carters. 98.82.178.214 (talk) 19:08, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've just removed several people who were not called James Carter. I don't agree with splitting the page. There are only a few each of James', Jims and Jimmys so keeping them on the same page seems preferable to spreading them over 2 or 3 pages. Tassedethe (talk) 19:36, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jimmy Carter (disambiguation)James Carter – This page, in its current form, has people named James, Jim, and Jimmy, but all are variations of James. I think the only reason it is at "Jimmy" now is because of Jimmy Carter. bd2412 T 04:14, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. James Carter is clearly the most common usage here. Theoldsparkle (talk) 16:44, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:CRITERIA and accuracy. Name disambiguation pages generally shouldn't be named by nicknames unless all of the people listed there actually used that nickname. It's not incorrect to refer to Jimmy Carter as "James Carter," but it's basically incorrect to refer to James Carter (New Orleans) as "Jimmy Carter." --BDD (talk) 17:59, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. All the people on the disambig page are James but they're not all Jimmy. Zarcadia (talk) 22:17, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, seems perfectly reasonable. Some of the people may actually ben officially named "Jimmy" rather than "James", but as long as there's a redirect from the ex-President, and a scope note on the dab page which clarifies that it includes Jim and Jimmy as well as James, that's fine.
