I have been researching automotive history and all was well untill I came across this page. There is a conflict with dates of who invented what first. Not sure how the Duryea brothers "invented and built one of the first gasoline fueled automobiles in the United States, Duryea Motor Wagon Company, established in 1895". When in fact, it was "In 1886 Benz was granted a patent for his first automobile." Wasn't Karl Benz's work almost exclusively in Germany? Also, "one of the first" may be appropriate for the Duryea: Duryea Motor Wagon Company says "a one-cylinder "Ladies Phaeton", first demonstrated on September 21, 1893 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. It is considered the first successful gas-engine vehicle built in the U.S." but has no citation so far. --Closeapple (talk) 22:09, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I couldn't find any info of Karl Benz in the US at this period. "One of the first" by itself sounds ok and be would be fine if there was more info to go with it. "invented and built one of the first gasoline fueled automobiles", gives an impression that's not intended. Since the motorcar was born in the European continent, it should be established that the brothers are from/live/born in the US and then the there relevance or contributions.
