Untitled[edit]

Perhaps someone who knows could explain why he is known (here at least) as Jérôme Lalande, not Joseph? In correspondence relating to his relationship with Philibert Commerson he seems to be known as Joseph. Millichip (talk) 10:37, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Icky biography[edit]

Full of peacock words and boasting horrays! Nothing wrong with Jérôme Lalande, but the article is clearly trying some non-serious biography of the ueber-dashing kind. And too little about his accomplishments. Said: Rursus (☻) 18:44, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

James Cook[edit]

This source about Cook say: "When Cook got back to Europe," Trevor says, "a French mathematician, Lalanne, using Cook's data, calculated the Earth-sun distance to be 153 million kilometres.
