Necessary?[edit]

Is the entire article on this year's festival necessary? I'm not familiar with it, but it looks like someone has copied and pasted the entire article from the festival page where only a little bit is necessary. I think it should be cleaned up to that Italy went for an internal selection and went for Nina Zilli and her album song since they didn't really use the festival to pick their entrant. They only picked the artist from the festival and a song from her album that wasn't entered. The-promise92 (talk) 20:24, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article should stay, but the whole contents of the article should not be here. I personally feel it should stay in the Sanremo Music Festival 2012, with only a few pieces here regarding Nina Zilli, an example being the Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 article, only listing the Melfest Final. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 20:42, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
We should only show the parts where Nina Zilli competed in. The awards section is unnecessary as Zilli won none of them and it played no importance or influence towards her being chosen as this year's Eurovision entrant. I'm going to remove most of these parts now. Bleubeatle (talk) 11:17, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Axg and Bleubeatle on this one. At first when the article is created, yes, it should cover the entire San Remo, albeit briefly. But once we know who represents Italy, then the article can be refactored to only show the part in which the Italian ESC representative took part, while also having a See main article: Sam Remo 2012" for those who wish to know a deeper insight into the contest. I think that was the case with this article, but with all the other major discussions going on regarding reformatting templates etc; then the refactoring of this got forgotten about. Done I've managed to remove the "Newcomers sections" as none of them were chosen. I've highlighted her name and entry during the Fifth Round to indicate that she was chosen. I added information during the Second round where I assume that she was announced as the Eurovision entrant for Italy.
I also removed the Awards section. Even though Nina was a recipient for one award and came second place its not really relevant to this article and should be kept in the San Remo article. If a Eurovision entrant happened to have won 1 award then they should just be mentioned in-text and not bring the whole awards section here as they play no relevance to Eurovision. Feel free to add more or fix some things around if you'd like then we'll see how it looks like. Bleubeatle (talk) 12:28, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was only announced on the very final night of San Remo, that Nina Zilli was to represent Italy at ESC, not the second round. Sorry misread the comment; got second round and second night mixed up. Yes, it was the second round of the fifth and final night that Nina Zilli was announced. WesleyMouse 12:32, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for confirming me this. So I added that information about her being announced on the second round of the fifth night there then.Bleubeatle (talk) 12:36, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do this in the future?[edit]

I have an idea. San Remo Festival has contestants that are separated into two categories (Big Artists and Newcomers). If the Eurovision entrant chosen by the jury belonged to one of these categories then we should only cover that section and place it here. Since Nina Zilli competed in the Big Artists category then we should only cover the Big Artists rounds. Bleubeatle (talk) 12:35, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That is how its always been done anyway. The only delay on this year's article was the fact we got so tied up with a huge debate that lasted days, regarding reformatting of templates, and recategorizing things, that we lost track of other parts of the project. But slowly, we're getting ourselves up-to-date again. Nothing to worry about though, as the project isn't about rushing, but taking our time. It may be worth noting how the article has been set out on Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Keeping to that format looks reasonable enough, and is covering enough details to a basic, but effectively at the same time. WesleyMouse 12:40, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. About that article, last year's Italy entrant, is it ok to just delete the "Artisti (Big Singers)" section? I don't think that its relevant since Raphael didn't compete in that section. Only the "Giovani (New Generation)" section should be covered. Bleubeatle (talk) 00:08, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd ask that question on the article's talk page and not on this one. Seeing as it is relating to 2011 and not 2012. But looking at the amount of work gone into that, I'd say chances are any removal would probably be a bad idea, and could potentially create an edit war between yourself and whoever put in that much detailed work to start with. You know what, I'm going to be bold and say yes remove that content from 2011 article. But make sure you don't removed the legend part of it, as that also shows the colour coding for the Giovani section too. WesleyMouse 00:33, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
