Question: If the intragovernmental holdings represent money that has been borrowed from entities like the Social Security Trust Fund, wouldn't that mean there would be a limit to how high the intragovernmental holdings could reach? Once the trust fund has no money left and only bonds from the treasury, is that the limit? What would that limit be?

That's an interesting question. I'm not completely sure, but I'd have to say no as the government could always appropriate more funds to the Social Security Trust Fund. As Intragovernmental holdings are considered to be "non-marketable securities", they are used as "intragovernmental+holdings" an accounting function but typically do not constitute the government's total future commitment to a trust fund financed programs.". I've always found the concept to be baffling by nature...somewhat similar to Greenspan's fedspeak. Smallman12q (talk) 15:54, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
