Archie Schiller

I have no idea why this trivial mascot infomation keeps getting re-added. The AfD was a clear delete. Not delete and merge the info here. Apart from being trivial, there are WP:BLP issues here too. Archie is not a mascot, however a player who was genuinely part of Australia’s Squad. He was officially named in the squad release and added for this Test match. As I have said in my edit explanation: “A player officially added to the squad is clearly not trivial, how is this any different to the addition of Labuschagne, or the addition of Agarwal to India’s side. Information is correctly sourced as an official player added to Australia’s squad. If, for example, a player such as James Pattinson was officially added for the Third Test, yet did not play, we would include this information here. The same is as such. I've asked the Cricket Project for further input. So should we:

1. Not include this at all
2. Mention it under the squad details and include him in the squad list
3. Only mention it under the squad details

If Schiller was actually part of the Australia squad, why wasn't he listed as having been dropped for the Fourth Test (see here)? "Including" him for the Boxing Day Test was a cute gesture by Cricket Australia, but nothing more. Far be it from me to say that to the poor little boy's face, but in the cold light of day, it was nothing more than tokenistic. Even in the official squad announcement for the Third Test, he isn't mentioned until the bottom of the page and even then there's a link to let people know it's a special case. – PeeJay 16:37, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

It was widely reported, so would pass WP:V. WP:BLP1E, which was a reason given by many votes, does not say that all mention of the person should be expunged, and a few people did say to mention on this article. It is (though only very marginally) OR to say that Archie was not a real member of the squad, but I think we can all say that there was absolutely 0 chance that he would have stepped in had one of the Aus team done a McGrath during the warm up. I don't think it's OR at all. If you look at the top of this page, which I linked above, you'll see he's not listed in the Australia XI, only in the squad list at the bottom. I think we have to operate on the same principles as the readers of the article, who are probably smart enough to realise that a gravely ill seven-year-old wasn't a serious inclusion in the playing squad. – PeeJay 20:16, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Someone doesn’t need to have a cap number to be part of the squad. He simply didn’t play, however was part of the squad, as similar to Hardik Pandya for India. It is different to other scenarios, such as the TinyTim toss one, as Archie was actually included in the official 14-man-squad. It seems that some people are taking the “squad” to be the XI, not the 14-man player selection. I think that needs to be clarified. He wasn’t dropped because the announcement only stated that he was to be included for this Test only. See releases:

Quote: “Archie’s inclusion in an extended Test squad was made public earlier this month and he learned the news via a phone call from coach Justin Langer, while the national team was in the UAE for their recent series against Pakistan.” [1]

Quote: “Aware that inclusion in the squad is no guarantee of a berth in the final line-up, Archie has heeded Langer's earlier advice to keep up his practice regime so that he's in prime form come match morning in Melbourne, four days after Archie's seventh birthday.” [2]
