Untitled[edit]

It is interesting to note that during the 'barnstorming' years of baseball, Indian Head, as well as several other prairies region settlements had a team. This team was called the Indian Head Rockets and consisted primarily of Florida Cuban players. The time frame was around the 1950's or so.

The town is also important in its contributions to the development of Marquis wheat. This variety of wheat was developed in order to grow in the climatic and environmental conditions of the Canadian west.

Hollywood of the Prairies?

Indian Head has been a hotspot for prairie filming locations. As far as I know Minds Eye Pictures has been the biggest contributor. They shot 'Stranger in Town', 'Lyddie', 'Skipped Parts' and possibly other productions in and around the town. There would have to be verification of this, all that I have is the comparison of pictures (from Minds Eye Pictures and some other site). The manor house is scene in the photo from the shooting of 'Lyddie'.

weather..[edit]

I highly doubt that the average July temp for Indian Head is only 18C. Not sure what it really is, but I'd bet it's in the mid-twenties. Masterhatch (talk) 06:21, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

north of the Trans-Canada Highway, like almost all of Canada[edit]

User:SriMesh, anyone else: It is a true fact that most of Canada...it can be said that almost all of Canada... is directly north of the Trans-Canada Highway, so I modified the statement in the article from "The town is directly north of the Trans-Canada Highway" to say that. The resulting "The town, like almost all of the nation of Canada, is directly north of the Trans-Canada Highway" is pretty ridiculous to be appearing in the article. Perhaps something about how the town center is just .5 kilometres (0.31 mi) yards off the highway (if that is true) should be stated instead? --Doncram (talk) 12:40, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just cut the following content from the above article's History section as it applies to the Town of Indian Head, not the RM of Indian Head No. 156. All the content is unsourced, and I see that this article is already of significant length with a comprehensive History section. Thus, I paste it here as a quotation for now for consideration by an editor to find sources weave into this article (if not already covered).

Indian Head was established as a town in 1902, and was said to be the largest point of initial shipment of wheat in the world. Indian Head has had many firsts in its history - the water and sewer system has long been the pride of Indian Head citizens. The water and sewer system was originally installed about 80 years ago. The water is the best in the country. It comes from the Squirrel Hills and flows by gravity for about 10 km into town. In 1978 the sewage lagoon was enlarged and upgraded.

The town had the first rural dial telephone service in the province and was one of the first to have direct long-distance calling.

The town had a power plant built and electricity installed throughout the town in 1906. Natural gas was installed in the town in 1960.
