--DMahalko (talk) 03:57, 10 December 2012 (UTC)==Differences in versions?== does anyone know of the differences in the different versions of the Indeo Video codecs? For instance, what are the major differences between Indeo Video v3 (IV32) and Indeo Video 4/5 (IV41, IV51)? Maybe some discussion of this would be useful in the article. --74.179.110.115 (talk) 22:18, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Open Source Alternatives[edit]

The information that no open source software supports Indeo 4/5 is not correct. Indeo version 4 and 5 are supported by XAnim(which has not been further developed since 1999) and also by MPlayer (which took over the source from XAnim). Maybe we should add this information. 85.181.112.22 (talk) 00:00, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Be bold! I will remove the incorrect info. 76.243.204.175 (talk) 08:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually MPlayer supports Indeo through Win32 DLLs. As for XAnim, the website contains info that at least version 3.2 was implemented under NDA and the source code cannot be released. It is also highly doubtful all the XAnim source code went into MPlayer, considering the former's license. EFraim7 (talk) 20:39, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeo on Windows 7[edit]

While Microsoft officially says that the Indeo codecs are no longer supported on Windows 7, they still work if installed manually - that is, drop the dll in system32 and register with regsvr32. (Not adding because it's original research, but I felt it worth mentioning.) --99.155.67.243 (talk) 05:58, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This must be kidding: in the article is the path C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe. Or was that vandalism and should be System32? 85.217.51.162 (talk) 21:30, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was the one who made that edit, the path is correct, you can try it yourself if you are using windows. Comrinec (talk) 17:23, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had to play an iv50 video on win7, and the solution (after installing iv5setup.exe) "regsvr32 ir50_32.dll" works, but on x64 you have to start the command prompt directly from the system32 directory, and not from start menu search, because the start menu search would start the x64 prompt instead of the x86, and the command ends in an error message. I haven't got that path in my computer,, neither I remember ever even seeing it anywhere but here. Though the "64" suggests it might be 64-bit system, and I have no experiences of those. 82.141.124.77 (talk) 02:41, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeo on 64-bit windows 7[edit]

The regsvr32 command is correct, but if User Access Control is enabled, you have to either use an elevated command prompt or make a batch file and run that elevated.

Also I did not have to install anything. The Indeo DLL's are present in Windows 7 without downloading anything extra. The DLL just needs to be registered.

On 64-bit Windows 7, the Indeo files are in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64":

  • ir32_32.dll - Indeo 3.2 Driver
  • ir41_32.ax - no info
  • ir41_qc.dll - Indeo 4.3.62.2 Quick Compressor
  • ir41_qcx.dll - Indeo 4.3.62.2 Quick Compressor
  • ir50_32.dll - Indeo 5.10 Driver
  • ir50_qc.dll - Indeo 5.10 Quick Compressor
  • ir50_qcx.dll - Indeo 5.10 Quick Compressor

So, to enable Indeo 5 on 64-bit Windows 7 with UAC enabled (default):

  • Start -> in search box type "cmd" -> wait for icon search -> Icon appears above
  • Right click on "Cmd.exe" icon, choose "Run as administrator"
  • Type C: and press Enter
  • Type CD C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and press Enter
  • Type Regsvr32 ir50_32.dll and press Enter
  • Close the command prompt window

ProShare wiki link wrong?[edit]

I think the ProShare wiki link links to a topic not related to this video codec. Am I right? 2A02:8070:6382:ECE0:D905:5222:BA4B:94E (talk) 08:53, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
