General

Refrain from using Worldometer (worldometers.info) as a source due to common errors being observed as noted on the Case Count Task Force common errors page. (April 2020, April 2020)

For infoboxes on the main articles of countries, use Wuhan, Hubei, China for the origin parameter. (March 2020)

"Social distancing" is generally preferred over "physical distancing". (April 2020, May 2020)

Page title

COVID-19 (full caps) is preferable in the body of all articles, and in the title of all articles/category pages/etc.(RM April 2020, including the main article itself, RM March 2021).

SARS-CoV-2 (exact capitalisation and punctuation) is the common name of the virus and should be used for the main article's title, as well as in the body of all articles, and in the title of all other articles/category pages/etc. (June 2022, overturning April 2020)

Map

There is no consensus about which color schemes to use, but they should be consistent within articles as much as possible. There is agreement that there should be six levels of shading, plus gray for areas with no instances or no data. (May 2020)

There is no consensus about whether the legend, the date, and other elements should appear in the map image itself. (May 2020)

For map legends, ranges should use fixed round numbers (as opposed to updating dynamically). There is no consensus on what base population to use for per capita maps. (May 2020)

Equestrian sports[edit]

In USA Wellington, Florida the last weeks of the WEF (Winter Equestrian Festival) was cancelled. Anybody who wants to add that to the article? https://pbiec.coth.com/article/final-two-weeks-of-winter-equestrian-festival-and-adequan-global-dressage-festival-canceled

Further: In this article there is only horse racing meantioned. To include other horse sports, I would suggest to call the headline "Equestrian sports".

American "Canceled" vs Other Countries' "Cancelled"[edit]

All Football variations in one section[edit]

I suggest grouping Association football, Australian rules football and Gridiron football into one section "Football" with sub-sections for each of the above as shown in the following example:

- Gridiron football

Same for hockey:

Hockey
- Field hockey
- Ice hockey

I would not say association football is particularly close to American football or Aussie rules. Neither do I think field and ice hockey are very close. They are very dissimilar sports that historically just happen to have similar names. - FakirNL (talk) 09:16, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Silly poetic sentence in lead/lede[edit]

Let's delete "Spectators have no games to watch and players no games to play" from the lead. It's sourced, but it's not even true. I can't believe it has survived this long. I would be bold and delete it myself right now, but wanted to put this on the talk page for a while since (1) it's in the lead, (2) it's sourced, and (3) this is probably a fairly high-visibility page. Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports[edit]

Hi! I am planning on making a few changes to this article to give more relevant information and fix a few grammar errors. First, I am going to add a few words under the North America section about the MLB, more specifically Justin Turner and the Dodgers. I plan to make a new section that gives more detail on how specific teams are reacting to the virus, adding on a bit about the ongoing outbreak with the Wisconsin Badgers football team, and how other teams reacted to new protocols because of COVID-19 pandemic.
