Each piece needs to be reviewed, not the mass edits and reverts we've seen recently. For example, the 'accurate, adequate and relevant information' Pabs put back with the last revert has at least three defunct websites (Belgium, Croatia, and Greece, which I've checked and commented out) and an inaccurate site reference (russia, but the previous reference appears wrong too). Whether or not there is a slash at the end of a URL doesn't seem like an issue worth the effort either way -- it's valid either way, so why worry about it?     • I've reverted and will revert the information about Buryatia, US and Australia at the end of the table. I included the 'defunct' links because they are there in the articles of other reality shows like Big Brother or Star Academy. I supposed it should be useful to know where they were located, as a research source (for example, that people using the Internet way back machine) I think the best way to display this kind of information, as you will be able to see in almost all the wikiarticles about reality shows (Star Academy, Big Brother, Survivor, Big Brother VIP), is in tables. It's a matter of consensus, aesthetic and similarity. And the site of Russia you deleted is the official. Greetings. Pabs

      • The Buryatia involvement in the Russian 'Idol' show would need some source -- does Russia in the article mean the entire Russian Federation, or just part of it? Offhand, it appears to me that including Buryatia is similar to including "and North Dakota" in a description of American Idol, but information on either side would be useful.
        • Buryatia is a recognised republic, as is Ukraine & Belarus which were only included in their respective seasons as audition cities. 'SuperStar has contestants from the US & Australia, I think I would know since I watched the entire season from the first episode to the grand final, so stop making out like I don't know anything about Idol, it is very childish of you.'           • Buryatia is not a State as Ukraine or Belarus are (they are self-sufficient and totally independent states recognized thus by all political, economic, sanitary and social international organizations) but a part of the Russia Federation, so it's not necessary to remark it, as the other countries don't remark their different divisions.       • For the Arab World 'Idol' show -- were there any contestants from either the US or Australia? It does appear the auditions for season 3 in Los Angeles and Sydney, and season 4 auditions will be happening in Los Angeles and Detroit.
        • SuperStar had auditions in some cities around the world but the countries taking part on it, watching and voting with an own voting telephone line (not the one for 'the rest of the world' that it has as it's a worldwide sat TV), are the ones from the Middle East. I said there were auditions in cities from several countries (SuperStar had auditions in some cities around the world), but that does not mean these countries were taking part in it. About the international number, that's what I said, again (voting with an own voting telephone line (not the one for 'the rest of the world' that it has as it's a worldwide sat TV))... people from all over the world could vote, but that does not mean the whole world were doing it.               • You are not making any sense at all, Australian contestants were on the show and American contestants were on the show (please look at Ahmed El Faleh & Haitham El Shoumali) Throughout the three seasons there have been no Qatari or Yemeni contestants on the show, yet they still participate in voting. Just because FUTURE TV is a sat TV that can be watched in every continent and because they had a line for all the NOT MIDDLE EAST (they're saying it: it's a MidEast show) countries. Then, since that moment, all the TV shows that are broadcasted by a channel with satellite coverage, don't belong to any region but to the whole Earth. Illogical... and weird. Wikipedia: WikiProject Idol series[edit]

There should be a WikiProject Idol series, so that all Idol related pages are consistent. Each contestant's page should be neutral and consistent with the other contestants of their season, Wikipedia should not favor one contestant over another, and having a WikiProject will help tremendously. Pan arab Super Star includes (as TV coverage/voting/auditions): Syria, Irag, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Tunisia (as TV coverage/voting) Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya

Narodniy Artist also includes Ukraine

Super Idol also includes Cyprus

How to do it? Something like bulbapedia or lostpedia.

Thanks, the tables don't seem to be formatted the same as Wikipedias, i've gone through some of the help pages but can't really get it working on Wikia.

Licensed and unlicensed versions[edit]

I'm working on finding citations for this, but I believe that American Juniors was licensed by Fremantle Media. Also, the X-Factor was also licensed after-the-fact as a result of the resolution of the lawsuit between Simon Fuller and Simon Cowell, but, again, I'm looking for a citation on that. -- ArglebargleIV 02:54, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American Juniors and X Factor are licensed by Fremantle, and should not be listed under "unlicensed." -User:Arual

Star search started in the USA in 1983... how can it be an "Unlicensed version"???

Attempt at table reformatting, and consensus[edit]

I've put a (partially) reformatted version of the table & footnotes at User:ArglebargleIV/Idol series -- let's discuss it here. Explanation of reversion of edits[edit]

I removed the following edit to the first paragraph :
The Idol series is watched more than the World Cup. [1]

Table format[edit]

Problems with Idol series[edit]

On December 2, 2006, Idol series was marked for deletion (the deletion discussion is here). Although it was kept, one of the concerns was that the article was largely unsourced. In order to forestall another (potentially successful) deletion attempt, I tried to find sources for the statements in the article. Unfortunately, I largely failed -- a lot of it seems like original research. Maybe somebody else can take a shot at it? Otherwise, a lot of it may have to be removed, if not the whole article someday. Hosts listed instead of Winners?[edit]

Why did someone edited the list and replaced the winner from each country with the hosts? I think if something besides the shows name and broadcast station should be listed it should definitely be the winner as it then also indicates how many seasons country had and its the winner, you know the Idol that was crownded. Map[edit]

In the map File:Countries with Idol series.svg, could anyone remove Pakistan? The show was actually designated but it was later cancelled and failed to launch. Perhaps a colour code for "cancelled" might be appropriate?

  • Strongly support "(franchise)", but Weakly support / Neutral on "Idols" → "Idol". I definitely strongly support the move to "(franchise)" per the precedent set with other pages like Survivor (franchise) and Big Brother (franchise). However, some versions of the franchise call it "Idols" and some call it "Idol", and I'm not necessarily sure which one is most commonly used to refer to the global franchise as a whole.   • Support. "Franchise" makes sense, and so does "Idol". The first series (Pop Idol), the first international adaptation (Poland's Idol), and the most popular adaptation (American Idol) all used the singular "Idol", as do many (maybe most) others. When I serach "Algerie Idol" on Google, there isn't anything. So if it was launched, just put some links. And if it was launched, change the colour - it's not an upcoming season.
