Honorifics[edit]

This article makes excessive use of the subject's full name and the honorific 'Dr.' It is standard encyclopedic usage to initially provide the full name with any relevant honorifics, and subsequently to refer to the individual simply by the surname. Exceptions are when there may be ambiguity where another individual in context has the same surname, or when providing quoted text from another source. Excessive use of honorific titles conveys an appeal to authority, and for this reason should be avoided.--Jeffro77 (talk) 02:21, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Having edited out most honorifics and 'fixed' the names,[1] now I know why I got a 'thank you' from the above "@Jeffro77: carbon-based entity (species 5618) of Wikipedia". P-]
• However, should he be referred to (surname?) as Ibrahim or Mohamed? I may have to change it all to Ibrahim (before it was a mixture of the two monikers) as this [2] 'Islamic' source uses "Ibrahim", or rather "Dr Ibrahim". --220 of Borg 01:09, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The ambiguity about which part represents the surname is pretty much why I didn't change it myself, although my hesitation was in regard to the abu part. Abu (literally father of) functions in the same manner as bin, ibn or ben (literally son of), and in theory it would normally be included as part of the surname. But I'm less concerned if it's someone else's error.
Resistance is not futile!--Jeffro77 (talk) 01:25, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Did you check that source using "Dr, Ibrahim"? I suppose I'll have to actually read the relevant WP:MOS section, query to at the appropriate notice board/project.

That source refers to him as Dr Ibrahim Abu Muhammad, Dr Abu Muhammad and Dr Ibrahim. It's by no means conclusive. I'm not sure that MuslimVillage.com is necessarily authoritative either.
(The Borg will surely end up being a wholly owned subsidiary of Google. So I guess you're right—resistance is futile.)--Jeffro77 (talk) 03:06, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You must have read it more thoroughly than I did! 4 times they shorten it to "Dr Ibrahim" and use the full "Dr Ibrahim Abu Muhammad" 4 times. One would hope that with a name like that they might get it right! (Maybe Facebook will buy us out? Perhaps for their Help Desk? No, Googles a lot more cashed up! US$ 59.8 billion vs $17.9 billion.) - 220 of Borg 05:38, 29 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
