Some additional info on the last brother from here.

The page title is wrong because it scanned incorrectly. The family name is Ibn Athir, not Ibn Athtr. But I figured I shouldn't change it because it shows up in the project index.

I also wasn't sure about wikifying the years. Better to make them "xxxx in literature" (which I did for 1865) or just "xxxx?" | Keithlaw 23:15, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ibn al Athir[edit]

Since when was Ibn al Athir ASH-SHAIBANI a Kurd? A shame what wikipedia allows to write here. Even al Athir self said that he is from the Arab tribe of Banu Shayban. Why do you lie? Because modern day Cizre is Kurdish it doesn´t mean it was always Kurdish. You Kurdish nationalists want to show South east Anatolia (al-Jazeera) as Kurdish, but that is a lie. Mardin, Urfa, Siirt, Harran are still arabic! Also Jazirat ibn Umar was arabic till the kurdish tribes came. But still their are living Arabs in Cizre. It is a shame that every untrustworthy site can be used as a source on wikipedia. wikipedia really should try to change its image. --Najdiarabian (talk) 23:42, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We are working on fixing this. Yes, some people here have transposed today's demographics of that area on people who lived there 800 years ago, which is absurd. His genealogy clearly shows the Arab descent, no doubt. Thanks, Amr ibn Kulthoumعمرو بن كلثوم (talk) 07:37, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As someone from Cizre, who has Arab and Kurdish roots, I think it would be wrong to explain the structure of the region with modern nationalism. Throughout history, the people of the region have mixed ancestry and are bilingual. Almost all Kurdish tribes trace their origins to a historical Arab figure. For example, the Emir of Cizre, Bedirhan Beg, traced his lineage to Khalid bin Walid. But his aim was to establish an independent Kurdistan. This ethnic mixture also applies to figures such as the Ibn Athir brothers and Al Jazari. If an ethnicity is to be specified, it would be correct to write both.

The claim that the Kurds came later is also not true. These two ethnic groups have not displaced each other. There was a long period of Iranian domination in the region before Islam, and historians have always written that Kurds lived here. 78.175.225.252 (talk) 23:05, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
