A special edition[edit]

A friend who lives in Tennesse told me a few days ago that a special edition of the Pacific Coast will be release to celebrate the 20 years of this bike, I'm not sure about the info, can someone tell me if this is for real? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.164.198.166 (talk) 03:01, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References / footnote 5[edit]

the translation of ^ "PC800 Geächtet und geliebt (PC 800 Observed and Loved)(German)". http://www.bikerboerse.de/php/archive.php?story=bba_0797_2.inc. is not correct.

IMHO, "geächtet" would be better translated as "proscribed".... Sorry, I am not Wiki-literate enough to perform the correction by myself, so anybody, please..... Pc800 a (talk) 19:20, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ächten {vt}, to ostracize; to ostracise [Br.]
geächtet = ostracized; ostracised
Probably more like "loathed and loved." 842U (talk) 21:10, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That´s it - sounds much better ! Thanks ! Pc800 a (talk) 08:07, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bad links[edit]

Two of the links refer to web pages of mine. My name is Leland Sheppard. I have moved all of my web sites away from directcon.net. The link to my serial numbers page should be changed to: http://www.lcsheppard.net/single_page_links/PC800SerialNos.html

Most of the data on the serial numbers page was taken from the serial number data in the Honda parts microfiche. For 1998 models, my data is serial number information provide to me by Pacific Coast Owners. The data for the Japanese home-market model was taken from serial numbers gathered from owners in the UK, Russia and South Africa. I just learned of a 1994 model home-market unit numbered 172: RC341200172 The engine number was supplied by the South African owner as well and is consistent with the frame number. I had no previous knowledge of a 1994 model for the home market. And his bike is listed as a 1997 model but the relative year of manufacture in the serial number indicates it is a 1994 model (the '2' after 341). The engine number is consistent with that.

The data for the European/Canadian bikes is sketchier. I found a listing that was supposedly built from a European parts fiche for the PC800. A man who claims to have had a copy of that fiche indicated that the numbers were valid. Some of the data I have been able to validate with existing frame numbers so I think my numbers are close. Honda did not publish the serial number end of range for the 1998 model and I have never been able to get anything official from Honda on the numbers, either in the US or Europe or Japan.

The other bad link is for my Pacific Coast Highway ride. The link for that should be: http://www.pcpch.org

It's not clear to me how to update those links here so I'm hoping that someone who is wiki-literate will see this and update them for me.

Thanks.

This level of detail isn't necessary for an encyclopedia article anyway. See WP:NOTMANUAL. We don't even include details like colors and prices of bikes. Lists of engine and frame and serial numbers are the province of collectors' guides. Wikipedia is not a collectors' guide. The usual sources for such things are personal web sites, which are not reliable sources. See WP:SPS. A good article should only give general information about production numbers and sales to give an overall outline of how well the bike did, and broader descriptions of the bike like you find in secondary sources -- books and magazines mostly, as explained in WP:RS. Links and citations of personal web pages should be removed, per WP:ELNO, along with all the stuff about serial numbers. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:53, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for supplying the updated links. Now that we can see that the references are to personal websites not authoritative sources we can remove them from the article. --Biker Biker (talk) 05:50, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your snide comment about not being authoritative is unnecessary and uncalled for. I probably know more about this bike than anyone else on the planet. I think that makes me fairly authoritative whether you view it that way or not. Leland Sheppard — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.180.23 (talk) 07:20, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You should probably remove the production data section as well since that information was gathered by me over 19 years. I didn't add it to the article but someone did using the information from my unauthoritative web site. Leland Sheppard — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.180.23 (talk) 07:29, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't snide to state the fact that personal web sites fail to meet Wikipedia's standards for reliable sources. Please spare everyone the dramatic displays of false indignation. One of the reasons it's best to edit in subjects where you don't have personal involvement is to avoid this kind of conflict of interest. It's much easier to discuss sources objectively when the source isn't your baby. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:10, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What arrogance! That is exactly why your link will never get back onto Wikipedia. --Biker Biker (talk) 19:50, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

weight[edit]

Hello Have just purchased a 96 and would like to know if anyone can tell me what the actual weight of this bike. We need to put a carrier on our motorhome to take it with us. Can anyone help? Thanks Joni — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.87.159.194 (talk) 18:03, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Honda Pacific Coast. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:
