Cirarions[edit]

I suppose the "Citations on the USSR" are from either or both of his books, but which? Hugo999 (talk) 23:42, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additions[edit]

I have been adding details from his sketch in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, citation details to be provided. I have amended name of his Soviet decoration to the Order of the Red Banner of Labour to emphasise it was the civilian, not the military, award he received. Any take on persecution of Christians under Communism and Stalin purges?[edit]

An article on such an internationally known ecclesiastic so openly pro-Communist would benefit if for perspective anyone can demonstrate views he had about persecutions of Christians in Soviet Russia and other Communist countries. His first Archibishop at Canterbury (Lang) had in recent years spoken and written a book on the subject when Johnson was appointed his Dean. He visited Soviet Russia during a decade when Stalin's purges made international news.Cloptonson (talk) 06:50, 7 March 2013 (UTC) I have found some answer to my own question in a summary of his views in his sketch in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (2004) and will incorporate the points in this article.Cloptonson (talk) 20:29, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

[From Nelson H H Graburn* who attended the King's School, Canterbury, 1950-55. I met the Dean often on the schools grounds, at church (in the Cathedral, at events and he invited us to tea in the Dean's House which was on the school grounds. I am pretty sure that he was married (for the third time?) to a young and handsome Russian woman, probably in her forties then, possibly an attraction for the boys to get to know him or go for tea.] B.A. Cantab., PhD U Chicago, now Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, University of California, Berkeley. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.141.97.159 (talk) 2015-03-24 23:36:13

Johnson was only married twice and his wife at that time was the daughter of a cousin, English.Cloptonson (talk) 22:54, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
