Years of Service?[edit]

He was captured and taken as a POW in 1943, so how can his Years of Service continue until 1945?? I think a POW is no longer an active soldier, of course he has to be treated like a Soldier according to the Geneva Convention and so on, but he is no longer a Soldier for his country than. I think you know what I mean... Greetings from Berlin :) Kilon22 (talk) 18:55, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The military sees it differently. I don't know about the Germany Army in WW2, but other armies continue POWs on the payroll and give them back pay (and promotions in many cases) when they get home. CsikosLo (talk) 15:52, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?[edit]

Why does this line feature in red at the top of the Talk page: This person is a Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipient

If it is not vandalism, what other qualifications are eligible for emphasis in this way? Valetude (talk) 20:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently that line had been the encoded description for an image to denote that fact but while the file is no longer available (thus red text instead of a picture) nobody deleted the coding. Accordingly removed it. ...GELongstreet (talk) 17:01, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
