regarding the lights over halewood, as a halewood resident who has seen these lights i can confirm that in my, and other witnesses at the time who were with me, opinion, the lights were not low flying aircraft. these were orange glowing lights, no sound, moving very slowly in straight lines, then suddenly disappearing then coming back and doing the same, sometimes alone, sometimes in threes, also with varying speed. doesnt sound like a plane to me so im changing it sorry.... seany87

Your recent edits are turning various places including Halewood in to "towns". Not every place outside of the city is a town. Please stop reverting edits and changing the status quo that exists already. For your information I have reworded Halewood to promote that it is part of Knowsley and made it less ambiguous. The above user prefers to engage in childish edit warring. Has cited that Halewood has a town council, I hardly believe a website means it is a town. Also have been accused of saying Halewood is in Liverpool when I have not and edits can show thisBabydoll9799 (talk) 14:50, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Halewood has a Town Council. What makes you think that it should not be described as a town? It is an entirely normal state of affairs for there to be several towns, with mayors, within a single local government council area like Knowsley. They may formally only have the powers of a parish council, but they are still entitled to call themselves towns, and to be referred to as towns here. See Town council#United Kingdom. I disagree. I think the town council is similar to places like Woolton or Gateacre that call themselves villages, but are part of Liverpool. I'm not saying Halewood is part of Liverpool but disagree that it is a town - more a large village. Babydoll9799 (talk) 16:38, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but whether or not you disagree is irrelevant. It has a town council. It is therefore a town. I shall revert you, and very strongly advise you not to engage in any further edit warring. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:27, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Again I disagree. This does not make it a town. I won't revert will see if there is any further input over a period. Babydoll9799 (talk) 17:42, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See also Town#England and Wales: "In modern usage the term town is used either for old market towns, or for settlements which have a town council, or... . Any parish council can decide to describe itself as a town council...". Ghmyrtle (talk) 18:21, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
From a historical point of view - Halewood used to be part of Hale. At some point it split away (probably due to the land changing ownership) and it became a Township. A township is often significantly larger than a town, and may have multiple villages within it. So for instance Windle is a Township, inside that was St Helens. The village of St Helens became a town within Windle, and later became the local authority for the entire area. Even later still it became the seat of a Borough encapsulating several local towns. At no point however did it devolve the towns/villages of Rainhill, Newton le Willows, Earlestown etc.
Same thing applies here. For general reference, historically a town typically has (or had) a Civil Parish which effectively granted them the right to found a local council (the stage beneath this is an Ecclesiastic Parish whose concerns are solely the spiritual needs of the people). Where neither of these exists, you will typically find these areas fell within much larger parishes (such as Childwall or Prescot). Other towns, in contrast, may have royal charter making them "Market Towns".
Generally speaking, any group of people could club together and form a "council" if there was not already one meeting their needs and declare themselves a town. Koncorde (talk) 15:30, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
