New editor[edit]

I just signed on as a new editor to Wikipedia, and the prompt suggested I start by editing this article. I'm currently going through the text to fix capitalization and punctuation issues, but I'm not sure how to deal with the rest. I'd suggest reformatting the "Body of Work" section to a table, to more closely resemble the comparable sections of other directors and media producers. I'm not sure how to deal with the sourcing issues: the IMDB is fine, but several of the others set off warning flags (the first citation specifically, to 'RapAttacksLive' archived from 'Nasty News,' does not appear to be a reliable source).

The issue with sourcing may be part of a broader issue with Wikipedia:Notability. I'm not entirely persuaded this subject deserves its own Wikipedia entry, as much of the content seems to mirror the subject's IMDB page. This concern is reinforced by the warning at the top of the page that the article is written like an advertisement, or that (as far as I can tell) the subject of the article is the one who created it. • Hi and welcome! I completely agree with your above analysis that this bio looks a bit "puffed up" and is of doubtful notability. I would like to add that IMDb is not considered to be a reliable source either. It's valuable, because it can point us to possible search terms and such, but it can be edited by its contributors without editorial control, so it is not an "RS". Perhaps the article should go to WP:AFD if no better sources can be found. --Randykitty (talk) 10:59, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for the welcome. I looked up the "Wikipedia: Guide to Deletion" and took a bit of time to do more research. Per the guide, I've added the WP:Note template to invite discussion, especially from the original creator. As far as I was able to determine, most of the sources linked by this page tend to focus on the particular works by the subject, and only briefly acknowledging the subject's involvement. There is one source that focuses on Hakeem Khaaliq directly, and that is Ebony magazine's review of "Quienes son los Afro-Mexicanos?" [1]. Per WP:Basic, I'm inclined to say that this subject lacks notability, and that if an article is deserved, it'd be better for it to focus on "Quienes" or one of Khaaliq's other works directly. Given that I'm a new editor and this is the first wikipage I'm involved in editing, I'm reluctant for my first major action to be requesting it for deletion. I'm going to leave the WP:Note template up for another few days and see if anyone else comments before I bring things over to WP:AfD PublicolaMinor (talk) 07:00, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
