Corrections to HMS Aphis[edit]

Hi Jon- I am writing to you because you are listed as the editor of the page for the HMS Aphis. There are some inaccuracies on the page that I would like to bring to your attention. My name is Kathy Wendolkowski and I am a transcriber on the project Old Weather, which involves entering weather data and narrative log information from WWI era Royal Navy ships for use in models and by any interested party. I have worked on the logs for Aphis. The wiki article states that the Aphis was in Romania for WWI, but her logs - at least for Feb, 1916 thru April 1916 - she was in Port Said, as well as other North African ports. I know this is not an earth shattering revelation, but we have instances of people researching their family's involvement in the War, and so, to me, it is important for the information on these ships be as accurate as possible. Please see the discussion page for Cadmus Class Sloops, which resolves the no original research and verifiability issues involved in Wiki articles. (I copied this from your own page.) You say inaccuracies Kathy, but the article states Aphis was on the Danube in 1917. So she could presumably have been in the Mediterranean the preceding year, between February and April at least. The information is not contradictory and therefore in need of changing, but perhaps you have some additional information to cast some light on a period that we currently have no information in this article on, her pre-1917 career? Hi Jon - I was looking at the 1st paragraph of the article which says she served in Romainia during WWI - sorry I wasn't clearer about which part of the article I was referring to - my thinking was that the 1st paragraph should be amended to include her stint in Port Said/North Africa. I have just finished transcribing her logs at Old Weather.org, and the period covered by the logs I had access to was Feb - April 1916. I'm hoping we will have more of Aphis' logs to work with soon. I highly recommend Old Weather to you - we have been transcribing weather information and narative logs into a database that will be available to the public - some ships' logs are already available - to see them, check out the Old Weather blogs.
