"No, ‘The Covenant’ is not based on a true story. Although the makers have not passed any statement regarding the authenticity of the story, it is highly likely that the screenwriters — Ivan Atkinson, Marn Davies, and Guy Ritchie — took some inspiration from real events, given the nature of the movie’s subject matter, including the actual situations faced by Afghan interpreters and troops and the political situation between the two countries since the United States withdrew its soldiers from Afghanistan in August 2021."[1] Οἶδα (talk) 08:45, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

British/American film?[edit]

The film was financed, directed, written and produced by UK citizens, a two UK companies and starring mainly British actors. How is this not a co-UK/US production. Sabotage?

Directed, written and produced by UK citizens or British actors doesn't make it a British film.Lobo151 (talk) 17:55, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How was this film produced and financed any differently than The Gentlemen, Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, Guy Richie's 3 most recent films? 12.3.40.251 (talk) 18:00, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide reliable sources. Previous movies are not relevant for this. Wikipedia:No original research.Lobo151 (talk) 18:04, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MAYBE, but where is the source that states it is an American film? The ScreenDaily link says "American" as a reference to what country the festival where the film was reviewed took place, right?
Where are the reliable sources that says it is American? I cannot find one.
However, there are a link that is used as a source here (see below), it showcases the complicated financing and production background.
American movie is a motion picture that is produced by a film studio, or an independent production company based in the United States of America (unless Wikipedia has a different definition).
This was film was NOT produced/financed by a film studio or an independent production company based in the United States (based in the UK), as a link that is ALREADY sourced explains. The link also states it was produced/financed in a very similar manner to Richi's three films before that i.e. US/UK co-production.

PS - Why ScreenUK is deemed an unreliable source? 12.3.40.251 (talk) 18:32, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Movies produced outside of Hollywood are often international co-productions, I fail to see how this is even an issue. You have 2 sources, I have four. The Deadline article sources explain in detail how it was produced by UK outfits in a the multi-national structure and then sold to a MGM/Amazon. Oh, well... 12.3.40.251 (talk) 20:08, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
