I believe Elaine Kennedy is notable because she is a candidate in a current Provincial Election and is very prominent in the environmental community in Ontario, having been involved in several local, national and international environmental remediation projects. Notability is the issue here, not facts, though the article has an obvious bias in favor of the candidate and thus violates Neutral point of view guidelines. A candidate for a minor office such as state pr provincial legilatures/parliaments are generally not considered notable by Wikipedia standards until they win election to the office. The use of the word "acclaimed" in the lead paragraph is a pretty clear indication of a point of view that is not neutral.

Candidates for higher office, such as nationwide office or the head of a state/province, are considered notable enough for inclusion. But unless they have established notability in other ways, a candidate for a particular electoral district, such as a riding in Ontario or a legislative district the States, a candidate is not generally considered notable (particularly for a minor party) unless and until they are elected. A candidate may be notable if they previously held another office, such as a mayor running for a legislature.

Ms. Kennedy does seem to have some awards — by the way, it would help if you would follow the style for references outlined in WP:REF — but some sources from newspapers or magazines would bolster your case for notability considerably. Realkyhick 03:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The word "acclaimed" means that she has won the party election to run as a candidate in the general election without opposition. It is a term used in elections (in Canada, at least!) that does not infer bias, it is stating the fact that her party has nominated her to run.

I understand the article may need editing (I am new here - and I'll continue to edit the article as I learn), but I still believe that this person is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia, since she is a public figure in her area, has been the recipient of national awards and is a candidate in a current provincial election. These individual reasons alone may not be sufficient to establish notoriety, but taken together, I believe they do.

My main reason for posting the article and working to keep it alive is that all other SDSG candidates in the upcoming Ontario General Election have Wikipedia articles, but this candidate did not. Didn't seem fair. The "Ontario General Election, 2007" Wikipedia article lists her name and linked to a blank page until now - I thought that was an obvious sign that she needed a page. Shane Jolly & Erich-Jacoby-Hawkins[edit]

My issue with them being merged in here, is that they have run in multiple elections, and will run in multiple elections. So it become unmaintainable to have to switch them from list to list, along with the re-directs. GreenJoe 16:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shane Jolley was notrable as having the greatest electoral success thus far of the Green movement in Canada - a pattern that is likely to build from here. In 2007 he is running in a provincial election, but still to be the first Green elected to a Canadian legislature. If Ontario votes for the first significant electoral reform in several centuries, and Jolley is elected, a new direction will be evident in Canada - Green as a political reality, not just a popular movement.Annekfs 11:01, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Its funny[edit]

Funny to see a no sources tag when we do have a few, none of the other 2007 candidates articles have this tag although each one of them has around the same amount of sources. ALSO to further prove me point no other candidates articles from previous elections cite sources either. Here, its a matter of somebodydesperate to tag an article even though, there isn't even a remote reason to do so.
