I have to agree - this article is ludicrously overlong, indulgent, pretentious, confusing and subjective. I don't know enough about Perry to clean it up myself, however (in fact I came here to find out more about him and am more baffled than before). Anyone up for the challenge of sorting this mess out? Nsign (talk) 08:11, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

This all looks self promotional, or somebody's term paper. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.12.110.17 (talk) 21:55, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

The article is not too long. Perry is a Turner Prize winner (2003), which in itself makes him an important British artist; since winning the prize he has become part of the art establishment. His work is autobiographical, so an account of his childhood and youth, especially in relation to his work, is necessary. His method of making pottery is complicated and unusual, and that also has to be described. 2,500 words seems a reasonable length to me. Having said that, some copy editing is in order. OK, I've copy edited it, taking out the waffle, repetition and most of the incomprehensible sentences, and it's now 1,200 words shorter. It needs more work - please help. The references are still a bit of a mess - some of them are not identifiable. Marshall46 (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

M H Henson edits

The passage you have inserted doesn't add much to the article.

As you seem to be new to Wikipedia, please note that you have broken the three revert rule, which says that a user who makes more than three revert actions on any one page within a 24-hour period may be considered to be edit warring and blocked appropriately. If you want to restore an edit that has been removed by another editor, you should explain your reason here. Hope that helps. Marshall46 (talk) 11:33, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Who threw him out?

The article says "At the age of 15 he moved in with his father's family at Chelmsford, where he began to go out dressed as a woman. When he was discovered by his stepfather he said he would stop, but his mother told everyone about it and a few months later threw him out. He returned to his mother and stepfather at Great Bardfield."

So he was living at his fathers house but his stepfather discovered his crossdressing and his mother told everybody and then threw him out so he went back to his mother and stepfather? Should it not read "At the age of 15 he moved in with his father's family at Chelmsford, where he began to go out dressed as a woman. When he was discovered by his father he said he would stop, but his stepmother told everyone about it and a few months later threw him out. He returned to his mother and stepfather at Great Bardfield." CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 21:55, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

This seems to be garbled from Wendy Jones, Grayson Perry - Portrait of the Artist as a Young Girl. The passage should be checked against the book. Marshall46 (talk) 10:47, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 07:33, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Mugisa?

Article suddenly starts talking about someone called Mugisa with no explanation of who that is, the entire paragraph makes no sense. I think this article needs serious work! 79.68.124.177 (talk) 18:41, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I came here to find out about Arthur Mee. This Perry guy appears to be a complete drongo. Can't we delete this sort of buffoonery? ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.89.227.219 (talk) 03:55, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

The word drongo is used in Australia as a mild form of insult tantamount to the term "idiot". This term derives from a racehorse in the 1920's that did not win in 47 starts. 81.157.161.124 (talk) 02:32, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Apparently Grayson Perry is to give the 2013 Reith Lectures. See The-Reith-Lectures-Grayson-Perry — Preceding unsigned comment added by Augusta2 (talkcontribs) 21:31, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Images?

It would be nice to have a couple more images - definitely one of his vases, and possibly one of him in cross-dressed mode? Huw Powell (talk) 15:51, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

Transsexual/transgender

Perry is a transvestite - he dresses up in women's clothing - rather than being transsexual/transgender. Unless there's a source of him saying he has some kind of gender identity disparity then he shouldn't be listed under transgender/transsexual individuals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.13.69.254 (talk) 20:29, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Isn't he a cross dresser, rather than a transvestite? Mark Hamid (talk) 14:44, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

So should he be in the LGBT classes ? 81.157.161.124 (talk) 02:36, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

"Socialists"

I understand that the English have a particularly low bar in the definition of somebody as a socialist, but given that Perry doesn't even seem to support Corbyn, a mainstream democratic socialist and appears to prefer the crypto-Toryism of the New Labour era, is there any particular reason why we are including him in a category of socialists? Claíomh Solais (talk) 21:48, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

I removed the category, there's nothing in the article to support it. -Lopifalko (talk) 08:02, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
