Merger[edit]

The result of this discussion was to merge. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:08, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I propose that Grand Restaurant Karel V be merged into Grand Hotel Karel V. Given that the restaurant is only one component of the larger hotel entity, the content in the restaurant article can more easily be given appropriate context within the hotel article. SchroCat (talk) 20:09, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I object to the merger. The restaurant, with its Michelin star, is notable on its own. The building, Duitse Huis, is also notable on its own. The present article Grand Hotel Karel V is a strange combination of advertising, Duitse Huis and Grand Restaurant Karel V. The Banner talk 20:21, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If Banner had demonstrated notability of the restaurant in its own right aside from the Michelin star from 2005-2013 (without repadding it with irrelevant info from the historical building) and said something notable about its cuisine and operations I'd have been happy to keep it separate, but as Aymatth has produced a decent article on the hotel I think it would be best to merge into a restaurant section in the hotel article unless Banner can reasonably expand the restaurant into something which would be too large to merge. I don't believe in inherent notability of things, yes it had one star for 6 years, but unless you can produce independent reliable sources which discuss the restaurant and its cuisine in detail then I think a merge is constructive. It's very sad to see Banner that you nominated the hotel article for deletion, seemingly in retaliation. Perhaps our master restaurant writer User:Miyagawa could write a very good article on it or shed some more light on this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:03, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would be a better idea to merge this article into Duitse Huis. More than half of the article is already about the building. The Banner talk 22:18, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • As per Dr. Blofeld, if things had been written differently with more emphasis being on the food rather than the architecture, I would have been happy. I support the merge as it stands at the moment. Cassiantotalk 21:04, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge. I added a footnote to this article giving chef names and dates, so the target now contains all the information given in the source. There does not seem to be much to say about the restaurant, but it is worth a mention in the hotel article. If more information emerges on the restaurant the redirect can always be turned back into an article. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:39, 26 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support merge. Everything worth saying about the restaurant seems to have been said in the hotel article already. Ivanvector (talk) 20:15, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing is that the article about the restaurant was there before. The Banner talk 18:30, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations for the execution of a perfectly valid article. You should be proud on yourself. The Banner talk 09:41, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake[edit]

Aymatth2, could you please correct the mistake with GaultMillau? They have not rewarded any points in 2014, as their guide is published in autumn... The Banner talk 18:30, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I tweaked the wording. They are showing a rating of 14 as of June 2014, presumably carried over from last year. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:39, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tags[edit]

@Banner- You may be right, but could you help me out by explaining why you find this overdetailed - it seems like a good architectural description. Or why the whole article needs a advertisement hatnote - where the individual sentences would be better tagged-- Clem Rutter (talk) 10:42, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • If there is advertising, it is not intended. The fact that the hotel is in a former military hospital may be seen as negative, and the fact that the restaurant won a Michelin star and then lost it is far from positive. Given the history, I suggest that any proposed non-trivial changes to this article be discussed here first. Aymatth2 (talk) 17:43, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
