Half-Chinese[edit]

im sure I heard him say "im half chinese but only human"

So? Main page clearly says "Anglo-Chinese"...doesn't that suggest half Chinese? 87.194.44.145 (talk) 13:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Anglo-Chinese could also mean English/British born but full Chinese. But yeh he's mixed race. --86.135.182.229 (talk) 17:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah he is, in an interview with Sunday Mirror's Celebs magazine he said his father is Chinese and mother English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.210.11 (talk) 16:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
he is full chinese but he is born in england :P :P :P :P :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.45.211.102 (talk) 10:50, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

His name[edit]

He states what his name translates to on The Friday Night Project...is it worth mentioning on his page? 87.194.44.145 (talk) 13:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He said it translated to "Big Noisy City" right? --LookingYourBest (talk) 13:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC) I lived in Hong Hong, and "Wan" means "harbour".[reply]
If you're talking about 灣, it means "bay". Though his surname is probably 溫. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.9.15.119 (talk) 20:45, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The translation doesn't make sense to me, but more importantly, the youtube video where he provides the translation is gone. I'm removing this and if anyone has another source, feel free to replace. 69.86.189.171 (talk) 02:38, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't there an infobox for Chinese names? Like with Jackie Chan and Zhang Ziyi? To show the Hanzi of their names in both Mandarin and Cantonese. 173.79.248.253 (talk) 06:27, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to start an article on "Gok's Fashion Fix" as Gok's other TV shows each have their own separate articles....Any objections???? IkeMuotoh (talk) 13:24, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just make sure you have adequate references to demonstrate notability. – ukexpat (talk) 15:44, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday[edit]

I know Twitter's not to be used as a source and the source being used here is a reliable one but Gok Wan's birthday is today according to himself. Perhaps it needs to be looked into and a different source found. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 11:15, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was having a conversation with an IP about that last night (1,2). We can believe Gok himself rather than a newspaper with regard to his own birthday, and there's no problem using a Twitter page for this purpose (it falls under WP:SELFPUB). The only thing we need to be sure of is that it's really his account, and not someone being stupid and impersonating him. I understand Twitter has "verified accounts" to show someone really is who they say they are... can you confirm this applies to http://twitter.com/therealgokwan ? Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 12:19, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
http://twitter.com/therealgokwan isn't a "verified account" but that doesn't mean it's not him. I can only say that I "know" it's really him because of his twitter conversations with other users such as Alan Carr (http://twitter.com/AlanCarr) - They started tweeting each other before Gok appeared on Alan's Chatty Man show (http://twitter.com/chattyman). Does that help? AnemoneProjectors (talk) 14:11, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well combining what you've said with my observations that it has about as many followers as the commercial account, and that there are no other Gok Wan accounts with anywhere near that many followers, and that there are over 500 Tweets from that account, I guess there's really no doubt that it's really him. Thanks, and I'll update the article accordingly. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 14:22, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Career[edit]

First sentence currently says "He worked with many... etc." BUT, what did he do? This is a bit vague. It says later that he became a fashion consultant or something similar. --220.101.28.25 (talk) 02:49, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is he hard of hearing?[edit]

I just saw an episode of Gok's Fashion Fix for the first time, and noticed that he wears an aid in his right ear. Googled but can't find any reference to it. Anyone know? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.121.65.159 (talk) 11:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It most likely not a hearing aid but an ear piece so producers can talk to him. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 13:27, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking the page[edit]

After having seen many unregistered users vandalise the page about Gok Wan, I suggest that we temporarily or permanently block the page to prevent unregistered or unconfirmed users from editing it in order to prevent any further trouble. NB, put in a request on RPP noticeboard due to prolific vandalism. Ash (talk) 16:46, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Born at age 16?[edit]

Gok Wan (christened Kwokhyn Wan) was born in Leicester, England, to a Chinese father, John Tung Shing (who was born in Hong Kong and emigrated to England) at age 16,[1] and an English mother, Myra.[2]

Can somebody fix? thx — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.170.61.5 (talk) 01:33, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Haha,  Fixed, thanks. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 02:41, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Christened Kwokhyn Wan"[edit]

Is he Christian? Was he baptised with this name? If not then it should be changed to "born Kwokhyn Wan" or something similar.109.255.209.70 (talk) 19:51, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sod it. I'm changing it until someone can provide evidence he was baptised.109.255.209.70 (talk) 18:30, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kwoklyn Wan is Gok Wan's brother. There is plenty of proof about for his brothers name. Kwoklyn is a martial arts instructor. This could be mentioned in his bio, maybe? Cj105 (talk) 20:50, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Face of Target in Australia[edit]

He has become the 'face' of Target in Australia appearing in multiple tv adds etc. I think this may be relevant somewhere in this article. Birth name[edit]

@Swiftsave: I'm not familiar with findmypast, but I don't understand how this link supports Gok's birth name as Kowkhyn. The site says Kowklyn, not Kowkhyn. It also states a "birth quarter" of 4, which I assume implies a birthday between October and December, whereas Gok's birthday (see #Birthday above) is in September. Expose[edit]

Those sunbed shops no matter how fancy and well meaning are actually quite dangerous

about 8.5 9/10

you can actually trigger a flinch mechanism

where you must leave the sun bed after 6 of the 8 minutes

even when you have built up the exposure over a number of weeks

i think it is more about warm air than the white light

Source for birth name of Kowkhyn Wan[edit]

This Guardian interview- https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2013/oct/13/gok-wan-fashion - would be a superior source to IMDB, given the status of that site as a source at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.165.191 (talk) 03:53, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
