Overlinking[edit]

How is this overlinked? Please consider undoing your revert. Thanks, M-ercury at 00:22, January 7, 2008

Thanks for raising the issue here rather than bouncing reverts back and forward. Linking the word "town" in my mind is overkill. The word is a commonly understood English word that does not require further explanation for the overwhelming majority of readers. Sending readers to a link that tells them nothing they did not know seems to me unhelpful. As can be seen in Town#Australia, there is no formal definition outside common understanding, unlike lets say, township in the US, which does have a specific, specialised meaning. Looking at Category:Towns in Victoria, there appears to be stylistic consistency in not linking the word "town". My thoughts only and if consensus is to link I am happy to comply. -- Mattinbgn\talk 00:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think that the reason I wikilinked it was due to... I wanted to see what the Town article looked like it, and figured there may be similar interest. There is a stylistic consistency there, and your point is stronger than mine. Unlinked it shall stay, and thank you for getting back so quickly. Best regards, M-ercury at 00:46, January 7, 2008
