Francine?[edit]

Given that this was produced by Ackerman, and in his previous series incarnation of the character and in all the theatrical and TV movies the character's name is "Frances", isn't it possible that someone editing this article (and the one for The New Gidget) has got the name wrong? It doesn't make much sense changing the character's name this late in her history. Can we at least have a reliable source (no, IMDB is NOT a reliable source) stating that the character's name in this version is "Francine", since it seems unlikely to be true? The Gidget article makes no mention at all of the name change for this series, and TV Guide (which usually copies their info from network announcements) lists the character's name as "Frances", which leads me to believe that a mistake has been made here. 71.200.138.188 (talk) 00:17, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I got the name "Francine" from IMDb, and no, it's not always the most reliable source. I got the other characters names from IMDb as well. I don't know whether the use of "Francine" in The New Gidget article came from IMDb, as someone else did that work. If you have an old copy of TV Guide that lists her name as Frances in this telemovie, then by all means go ahead and change it, listing that source; I used "Francine" because I had no other source except IMDb.

In the telemovie itself (and in The New Gidget), Gidget's father and husband address her as "Franzie" (or possibly "Francie") which could be short for Frances. Then again either "Franzie" or "Francie" could be short for Francine. They could also be short for Franziska, as in the novels (If her name was changed, it wouldn't be the first time). There seems to be relatively little effort made at continuity within and among the many worlds of Gidget--in regard to names, time frame or some other areas where one might look for continuity.Floggolozzo (talk) 18:48, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
