I thought it would be of value to add the Inspector Morse episode, 'The Infernal Serpent', just because Geoffrey Palmer acts very compellingly in a very different role from his usual - an intellectually arrogant college head, with a predeliction for very young girls...!--Ndaisley 18:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I saw him on TV at the Gunners v Spurs game, but does anyone have a source for his being an Arsenal fan? Anyone can turn up to a match and be caught on camera, but it doesn't necessarily make them a supporter.  — MapsMan talk | cont ] — 16:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Death[edit]

BBC TV News at One announced the death of Palmer right at the end of today's bulletin (13:30 hrs, 6 Nov 2020). Mjroots (talk) 13:37, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Any source for the exact date? --Seewolf (talk) 13:53, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here’s a source: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54838209 MikaelaArsenault (talk) 14:34, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

yes, but without a date. I think it's safe to assume November, but not the day. --Seewolf (talk) 14:39, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He died on November 5th:

In a statement released on Friday, the actor's agent said: "We regret to sadly announce that the actor Geoffrey Palmer died peacefully at home yesterday aged 93."

Good that we kept the 6th out of the article. --Seewolf (talk) 15:24, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Mirror Online disagrees: it says "The agent for the As Time Goes By star confirmed the actor had died peacefully at home on Friday." and Friday is the 6th. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 20:22, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Mirror is not a RS. Mjroots (talk) 20:36, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, according to Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Sources, there is no consensus on its reliability. But just like rte.ie, AFAIK. Note that sources known to be reliable do not give a date yet. So I would rather regard the date as currently unknown. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 23:07, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
French sources either give the 6th (Gala, which is regarded as OK, EbeneMagazine, but I don't know whether it is a RS, and AlloCiné, which is regarded as OK in general, but sometimes contains errors on the dates) or don't give any date. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 12:45, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, The Guardian says the 5th, and I think that's the most reliable source that gives a date. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 13:01, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Someone added that he died following a short illness, but none of the articles are mentioning that. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 15:50, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Years active end date[edit]

Wikipedia says 2014 as his last credits. IMDB says that he has a movie in post-production called An Unquiet Life that is scheduled to come out in 2020.

Should it be left at 2014, or should it be changed to 2020? MikaelaArsenault (talk) 14:33, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB is seen by some as a non-RS. Leave it at 2014 for now. When/if the film is released then it can be changed. Mjroots (talk) 19:40, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Here the IMDb seems to have at least obsolete information. According to Deadline (2019-12-17) and British Period Dramas (2020-02-13), the title An Unquiet Life has been dropped. No mention of Geoffrey Palmer in these articles. — Vincent Lefèvre (talk) 23:20, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
An Unquiet Life has had its title changed to To Olivia and IMDb has it marked as completed and to be released in 2021. Ttenchantr (talk) 09:20, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The end date should be when he finished his work on the film, not when the film is released. He can't have been active when he is no longer with us. Now the release date for the film should be part of his filmography just not the infobox field. MarnetteD|Talk 14:59, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Military Service[edit]

The dates for his military service (1946–1948) are inconsistent with "Battles/wars World War II". Which is correct?

The article says: "He served as a corporal instructor in small arms and field training in the Royal Marines during his national service from 1946 to 1948...." It does not say that he served in World War II. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:38, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The picture[edit]

I don't think much of the picture in the info box. It's taken from side on and very small.
Isn't there anything better?
