Recipient List[edit]

As noted in the updated article, the full list of recipients of the General Honor Decoration for Bravery is unknown, since the records were destroyed during Allied bombing of Darmstadt in World War II. The additions which have been added to the list are thus from secondary sources (that is, secondary to the actual Hesse records). These are primarily the Bavarian and Württemberg Army Militär-Verordnungsblätter and the Bavarian Army Kriegsranglisten, both available digitally on Ancestry.com, the annual rank lists of the Reichswehr and Reichsmarine (which listed awards), and the personnel files of various Wehrmacht generals which can be found digitally on the Bundesarchiv website.

Most recipients of the medal were common soldiers and officers who would not be prominent enough to have a Wikipedia page, so this list with my additions is a limited snapshot. These additions are mainly people who also received either the Pour le Mérite in World War I or the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross in World War II.

Regarding the General Honor Decoration for War Merits, this was primarily awarded to men and women on the home front or in the rear areas away from enemy action. As such, most recipients were less prominent and are less likely to be notable enough to have a Wikipedia page, especially on the English language site. 65.216.227.119 (talk) 13:06, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
