different source[edit]

Nationalencyklopedin states that GANEFO was held in 1963, 1966 and 1969. Moreover, it states that the competition was directed at being a political alternative to the Asian Games, not the Olympics. --Soman (talk) 15:10, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first GANEFO was a large-scale, Olympics-like event intentionally held a year before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and open to all nations. The 1966 event was meant to rival the Asian Games at the time.

Qualifiactions[edit]

How did France, Italy, and the Netherlands appear at anything involving "new emerging forces" in the 1960's? As none of these countries were suspended from the Olympic movement, apparently their teams, like the Soviet team, were not of Olympic-caliber athleltes. I can't imagine they were sponsored by the national sports authorities, either, so if not, were they constituted by socialist or other political groups? This needs to be included in any future revision/expansion of the article. 75.216.55.150 (talk) 18:57, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
