Some sources[edit]

This was in what's now called Fort Smith USD 234, which seems to have been formed in 1965. I assume there is coverage from multiple sources in a permanent context, and they just haven't appeared on the web yet. To start off, here's some stuff from the Fort Scott Tribune and the Fort Scott Monitor (or just Fort Scott (Kas.) Tribune if you go by inside pages). That paper is for Fort Scott, Kansas, the county seat:

It appears that, at least in the 1920s and 1930s, the paper used to have a section called "Fulton High School News" or "Fulton High School Rumors". I've found a few of these columns — thumbnails with bad text scans, but if someone wants to submit to the Newspapers.com account weirdness: Saturday, February 18, 1922, page 6; Thursday, March 9, 1922, page 3; Monday, April 3, 1922, page 3; Thursday, April 6, 1922, page 3.
The existence of "Fulton High School News" columns themselves (from the 1930s) was mentioned in a news column about a Fulton High School reunion, which was held at this former high school (now the Fulton Community Center): "Class of 1939 celebrates anniversary". I think this may have been a combined 12-grade school; A news article (which also has a map of the old districts of USD 234) treats it as if it were a single facility when deciding when the just-unified district came into existence: "Best Possible Education of Youth Goal During Difficult Days Ahread".
