Untitled[edit]

A couple of minor points:

1. The list of the highest points in the range should include Garfield, which is higher than Librty and Flume. Though it's not on Franconia Ridge, it is usually considered to be part of the Franconia Range. Unless we want to claim that "Franconia Ridge" and "Franconia Range" are synonymous, Garfield deserves a mention, it seems to me.

2. We currently give a higher elevation for Truman than for Lincoln, which is manifestly incorrect. 206.208.105.129 (talk) 17:56, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I fixed the Truman elevation (it was probably a typo). I don't have the materials, though, to evaluate whether Garfield is part of the Franconia Range or not (i.e. "Franconia Range" does not appear on USGS maps), so am leaving that untouched. --Ken Gallager (talk) 20:01, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for responding so promptly! I assumed, based on the emptiness of this talk page, that it might take a long while before anyone else weighed in. As for the question of Garfield's affiliation, I wonder what sorts of authorities would be definitive for our purposes. Peakbagger.com lists Garfield as a part of the Franconia Range, as does 4000Footers.com, and this 100-year-old Gazetteer and this biography of Robert Frost would seem to agree. Unfortunately, there seems to be no ultimate authority--the USGS Board of Geographic Names website doesn't seem to recognize the existence of the Franconia Range at all, and though they do have a record for Mt. Garfield, they don't seem to have an opinion as to what range it belongs to. 206.208.105.129 (talk) 19:09, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you had just listed the first two websites, I wouldn't have been convinced, but seeing as you have some much older sources that place Garfield in the Franconia Range, I say go ahead and change it. Fatalities[edit]

An editor started a table of fatalities on the range, but for now it only contains two cases, both from this past winter. I have removed the table from the article as being premature and am storing it here for now. I know other articles have lists of fatalities (List of people who died on the Presidential Range), so I am not against the idea of a list here, but I feel it is not yet ready for inclusion in the article.
