I'm a little confused. The section on Argo Nevis states that:

"Argo Navis is the only constellation from Ptolemy's original list of 48 constellations that is no longer officially recognized."

And yet, top of the list of former constellations is:

Pronunciations[edit]

The moronic English way to pronounce Latin enmaddens me. [ˈkʌstɒsˈmɛʃiəm] for Custos Messium!!? The correct pronunciation is of course [ˈkustɔsˈmɛssium] /koostohs messyoom/. I didn't think there was such a thing as correct Latin pronunciation, as no one knows how spoken Latin sounded. I've heard some fairly learned folks pronound Latin all sortsa ways. PurpleChez (talk) 18:33, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can wholeheartedly subscribe to the sentence "The moronic English way to pronounce Latin enmaddens me". However on second thought: there are certain historic conventions how the English speaking world pronounces the Latin names of the modern constellations, and there's nothing we can do about it. Now these obsolete constellations were in use, often as late as 1922, so I guess there must be some accepted way they were pronounced among English speaking Astronomers.

We might however challenge the source of the pronunciation currently given in the article...

Created by...[edit]

Ptolemy is currently listed in the "Created by" field of the Argo Navis line. Perhaps it is important to mention him in connection with Argo, but I believe he simply catalogued it rather than creating it. I'm not sure whether it would be best to leave his name out (substituting "traditional", maybe), to change the column heading to something else, or what. Any thoughts? "Citation Needed"[edit]

I noticed that where the "Nubecula Major" and "Nubecula Minor" were at, it had "Citation Need" at the end. Any explanation why it's specifically there and not anywhere else in the article? MasterWolf0928-Æthelwulf (talk) 16:35, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Asterion and Chara[edit]

Asterion and Chara is not a former constellation. These are the names Hevelius gave to the two principal stars in his new constellation Canes Venatici (The Hunting Dogs), which is still in existence. Eroica (talk) 12:06, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
