Tom Campagna, when he was Chief Engineer under Claire Schulmann, had promised to rewiden the Flushing River to its original width because the reduced flow was largely responsible for the stink of Flushing Bay.

Prior to that Cristian Mayer from Colombia University had proposed a grant grubbing boondoggle putting canal locks in Flushing Bay.

The River was widened for the first World fair but buried for the second. Burial of the river and subsidiary creeks is responsible for much local flooding. Aerial thermal imaging should be used to map them as the land has shifted from that in maps at NYPL.

There are paintings of the river once dislayed at IBM Galleries in the mid 1980s.

Question about dating of Brooklyn Ash Removal Company[edit]

Article indicates that Brooklyn Ash Removal Company was given land on banks of Flushing Creek in mid-19th century, but I'm noting several sources where this company was not mentioned before the 1900's, 1904 appearing to be a target date. Harder to check from Los Angeles... could someone definitively verify? LiteratPJ (talk) 21:51, 5 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lead feels a little short for the article...
- Expanded.
"where Vleigh Place traces the Vleigh (old Dutch for Valley) of the headwaters" I don't really understand this?

Indeed promoted to GA two days ago. I personally lean toward the default or to ALT1; ALT2 sounds impressive, but the phrase "fixed-trunnion bascule bridge" is perhaps too specialist. Human impact on something "worthless" that we now understand to be critical to the environment is a more universal concept. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:02, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
