FRUPAC, still operating in 1944?[edit]

The first paragraph would seem to indicate that FRUPAC ceased operation early in the war, sometime after the fall of the Philippines, when FRUMEL was set up in Australia. This source, which I recently read in light of the sinking of the Shinyo Maru, with 750 allied POWs on board, by a US submarine, says explicitly that FRUPAC was still in operation in September 1944: American POWs on Japanese Ships Take a Voyage into Hell. The Shinyo Maru: An Explosion, and Survival, for Some POWs, Prologue Magazine, Winter 2003, Vol. 35, No. 4. Retrieved 28 March 2010.

That source says: "...a note was added to the message of September 6 that Fleet Radio Unit Pacific (FRUPAC) interpreted as ""SHINYOO MARU (750 troops for Manila via Cebu." In pencil was written: "FRUEF (31 Dec '44) gets 750 Ps/W"! FRUPAC misinterpreted this crucial part of the message with fatal consequences." Mvialt (talk) 01:47, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is probably referring to Station HYPO in Hawaii which was also known as FRUPAC. Cla68 (talk) 04:09, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
